Type of destination: weekend getaway

Description: One of the most famous hill stations in India, though usually bustling with tourists Shimla provides a getaway to wonderful short day trips nearby.

Places to visit: the mall, Kufri, Narkanda (60kms), Tattapani (65kms)

Tips: wonderful four lane highway till Ambala and after Kalka roads really good and one can indulge in fast hill drive/ride while in company of great views.

If you are OK with staying in Himachal Tourism's hotels, log on to hptdc.nic.in & check out the availability of accommodation on-line. You can then go ahead & book on-line as well.

They have two Hotels there - Peterhoff & Holiday Home

May I suggest a better route which avoids madness at Zirakpur
1. From ambala take chd road
2. At Dera bassi toll post do not climb bridge, but take left, the road will take a U turn from under bridge.
3. About a 100 meters from U turn take left to Ramnagar
4. Take left at T, you will go on Nadha sahib road
5. After crossing the Ghaggar river, take right, and voila you are near Pinjore.

Travel time saving = 30 minutes
I took this route recently, and its amazing.
