Destination: Siliserh
Route: Delhi – Gurgaon – Dharuhera – Alwar – Siliserh Distance: 180 kms from Delhi Type of destination: day trip/weekend getaway Description: few places are worth the visit not only for the views they offer but more so for the drive/ride they offer, Siliserh is one such place. Don’t get me wrong, the lake itself is beautiful and going for a boat ride in the lake is highly recommended. But for a rider/driver in you, Siliserh offers much more than a mere destination. The winding single lane roads once you cross Alwar are a pleasure to drive/ride on. Places to visit: Siliserh Palace/hotel Tips: leave early in the morning and instead of taking the diversion from Dharuhera, continue on the NH 8. There is another diversion just before Shahpura for Sariska wild life reserve, take this route instead. Although this is longer than the Alwar route, it offers some fantastic scenery and a superb ride/drive. During weekend Siliserh is usually crowded, if possible go on a weekday. Hi, I did get a chance to visit Alwar in March this year and i was informed by a local to visit Siliserh lake. This lake is about 30 minutes from Alwar city and provides a paranomic view from the Siliserh palace taken over by RDTC (they have coverted this palace to a hotel just at the bank of the lake). One can enjoy a boat ride after taking a coupon from the enterence of the hotel and charges about 80 Rs per person for half an hour ride for paddle boat and about 250 for motor boat. I had my lunch at the hotel which was very decent and also got a chance to meet the Manager and check the price and they accommodation option was also affordable. Needless to say its a good weekend gateway with nice surrounding and cheap accommodation. One needs to be cautious about the MONKEYS as one would fine them in plenty at the hotel. The best way to reach Siliserh is boarding the Delhi-Jaipur Shatabdi (leave about 6:15 in the morning and reaches Alwa at 8:40 am) and takes about 2 hours and 20 minutes to reach Alwar and one can hire a taxi or Auto from the Alwar railway station to Siliserh.

Silised (I spell in like this, it also being pronounced like this). I visited there in Sep, 2007 (1-2 Sep, 2007). I suggest not to go there in months from July-Sept because of high humidity, lots of insects, Palace is not that great place to stay in, no generator for back up and power cuts are worst than Noida. And the Palace charges too much (see the tariff pix posted here, we did not get any discount even for group booking). Palace restaurant and its food were as bad as other things in palace.
But got to know from somebody that it is fantastic in Nov-Dec and in Feb-March. I just hope they have improved the facilities by now. Location of the Silised Palace is on hill along the lake and balconies have good panoramic view. Lake view is also good with an island in middle. We did not do boating due to unbearable heat. Some other visiting tourists tried and got baked. In once incident there I was trying to click macro of dragon flies and they were turning out to be one restless flock. Then came a day visiting group of uncle, aunties and bachhas and all peace was shattered. I sat there with heads between my legs and started waiting for them to go so I could start again. They took me as a pro photographer waiting for customers. Uncles asked me to click a group photo with aunties prompting in background for asking the "rate" first. One of uncles said, " areey bhai photographer hee to hai, kitna paisa le lega?" I excused my self very plainly and they thought I was only willing to click firangis and not desis. I was offered more money. Upon that I gave them a solid piece of advice. First they apologies and upon knowing that I was trying to click a macro of the flies without success I was offered a help. One of the teenagers caught one of the fly, dipped that in lake water for 2 seconds, and made that sit on one of the stairs. The fly took time to dry itself before flying and I got one good shot. Another was shot just like that. I was satisfied and very thankful to them. Sariska is about 1.5 hrs away and there is an old Shiva temple in forests 1 hr away. Amit, dhaba at the beginning of the ascent, used to serve decent meal. Next time you are there, check it out. Oh yes, in weekends, it is absolutely jam packed with people.

Haven't been there for years! Basically thanks to all the people I encountered when I went there last time, Sariska seems like a better bet or better yet, exploring roads around Siliserh and Sariska.
