My photolog of BCMTouring's trip to Ladakh in 2007.
Day 1: Delhi - Manali
Time to start from home
Umesh and Nilesh, taking a break before Ambala.
Day 2: Manali - Kokhsar - Darcha
Getting ready in the morning at
Himachal Tourism Loudge
Getting luggage loaded on our steeds
Time to ride out
Line up at Rohtang Jot, we took over it for an hour or so
Beautiful Keylong
Day 3: Darcha - Sarchu - Pang
Time to start a new day, morning at Darcha
Deepak Tal, a place I want to camp sometime!
En route to Baralacha La
We came across Suraj Tal
Then finally reach Baralacha La
From there we headed to Bharatpur (the settlement you see in horizon)
From there to Sarchu
Where we had lunch
Then we met up with motographer who had a puncture
Nice curves? We rode on those!
Day 4: Pang - More Plains - Tanglang La - Leh
Just after Pang we stopped for a pic
Took a shortcut to More Plains
Explored small trails before more plains
Remains of the road which once existed at More Plains
Me posing at Tanglang La
Day 6: Leh - Khardung La - Khardung Village - Diskit (Nubra Valley)
North Pallu, sight of things to come
After riding through snowfall we finally reach Khardung La, time to pose
Small lineup at Khardung La
Soaked at Khardung Village
Timeless memories
Sparsh posing after Khalsar
The thunderous sky
Can have fantastic effects
Day 7: Diskit - Hunder - Thoise air field and beyond - Hunder - Leh
We saw some sand dunes at Hunder in Nubra Valley
Then headed for a place where we weren't supposed to go!
But it was so beautiful so we kept riding
Until we were shown the gun and told to turn back! Pakistan was barely 30kms away!
A small bridge to nowhere in the middle of nowhere!
After 70+kms of riding, we came back to the place beyond which we weren't supposed to go!
Then we headed back to the highest road in the world
And reached Leh soon
Day 8 Leh - Chang La - Pangong Tso
The mighty Chang La welcomed us
And en route to Pangong Tso, we discovered another lake
And another one!
Then we finally caught the first glimpse of Pangong Tso
And the sunset
Day 9: Pangong Tso
Next day we got a better view
And sat down to relax
And even had a small race!
Fished out DJ's bike
Got mesmerized by the tranquility of Pangong Tso
But got trapped by Pagal Nallah
Day 10: Pangong Tso - Tangste - Chang La - Leh
Army came to our rescue next day
And we raise a toast to them
Day 11: Leh - Lamayuru - Kargil
Next day I alone, had a late start and bad weather, but there is always a silver lining to it
Took the road less used and came across the ruins of a village
Then I was back on the normal route
Day 12: Kargil - Sankoo - Pakarachik - Rangdum (Suru Valley)
It was time to head to Suru Valley, I was back after a year.
Nothing much had changed, people were still collecting grass for winter
But this Stupa wasn't there last year!
But road was the same
And so were the views at Rangdum
Day 13: Rangdum - Pakarachik - Sankoo - Kargil
As I headed back next day, I took the abandoned trails
They were a lot more fun then the boring tar roads!
Then the adventure was over, as I bid Suru farewell again!
Day 14: Kargil - Drass - Zoji La - Srinagar
Next day I crossed over into Kashmir
A dramatic change from what I was seeing for past few days
But it was now time to bid farewell to hills get back home!
