STOK KANGRI ... unending adventure !
 FACT .... thats the view @4.30 am from advanced base camp, stok kangri, ladakh, looking towards the glacier to be crossed - with the ridge on the right going up to the summit (not in view). HOW THEY'D WRITE ABOUT IT ....... its 4am, the snow glistens in the bright moonlight.... little twinkling stars on our trail, shining brighter when the headlamps throw light around. Its almost a full moon - an extremely bright shining light above stok kangri. The peak towers above - a black shadow against the starry sky. A Stinging icy breeze blows across the snow slopes which seem to run smoothly down to dark unknown and unseen depths. I could slip just now, into those depths & nothing here would change... the beauty.. the brilliance... the peace... amen ! THE TRUTH IS ... its 4.00am, we've been trudging through unexpected fresh snow for 3 hours... my legs are beat, my arms are frozen, i cant keep my grip on the ski-walking pole... as i take my next step, my foot doesnt find a hold... it slips... 3-4ft down it gets caught.. .. uh oh i am s-t-u-c-k... i cannot move... ....if i budge i know i'll slip down the 1000ft slope. 1000 ft? i dont know how far down it goes.. thank god its dark & i cant see. is that why i'm not afraid !?! my cousin behind me tries to help, but its no use... the guide comes back and pulls me up.... i regain my balance and climb back on the trail. phew. breathe. ...blood getting back to my brain...why am i here ? why am i doing this to myself.. oh, i remember, i love mountains, i want to trek..... yeah right !! OK, whats the fuss about ? Stok Kangri (elevation 6,137 m (20,135 feet) is the highest mountain in the Stok Range overlooking Leh. Here you have it .... UP : The Stok range from the indus valley Leh  CLOSE : Stok Kangri on the right, taken near Mankarmo (first night halt)  and PERSONAL : Stok kangri, taken on the route to advanced base camp  TRAILOR: Stok kangri...unending adventure ! CHAPTER 1: lets go..but where !? CHAPTER 2 : nubra valley darshan CHAPTER 3 : Panamik & the road on top of the world CHAPTER 4 : A Leh'd back day  CHAPTER 5 : wet n wild ! CHAPTER 6 : up, up & away.... almost heaven ?! CHAPTER 7 : so near yet so far ! CHAPTER 8 : skipping down to leh CHAPTER 9 : the road goes ever on & on....
