My apologies for not posting this earlier. It is all because of you guys - I keep too busy reading travelogues!
Here is goes: “Risin' up, back on the street Did my time, took my chances Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet Just a man and his will to survive So many times, it happens too fast You change your passion for glory Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past You must fight just to keep them alive” These lines from ‘Eye of the Tiger’ very much describe my trip to “Chansal Pass” (pronounced Chaan – Shal). The difference was this did not involve Sylvester Stallone and it was not a boxing match but a motorcycle ride. Chansal Pass is considered among one of the toughest motorable passes among adventure lovers. It connects villages of Dodra and Kwar with rest of the world. Calling it off-roading is an understatement! ![]() More Coming!

Whats does age have to do with teasing?
A long weekend, my bikes run-in very much over and most passes still open, it was almost impossible to spend it in Delhi. I would be joined by another friend on his Avenger 200. It was going to be a ‘Hamara Bajaj’ moment. Rather than go to a nice hill station, check-in to an expensive room and look for a mate on mall road, we decided to do something we can boast off. I would also get a chance to check the touring and off-roading abilities of my Pulsar 220. We left from Delhi on NH1 and then took NH 22 after Amabala to head to Khandaghat and turned towards Chail. This is a beautiful road over looking the beautiful valley, though narrow and slower than NH 22. This road meets NH 22 again at Kufri and were back on the beautiful wide curving road till Theog. Took a little break - Poser Bhai! ![]() Had some juice here ![]() Nice Roads to Chail ![]() My Beauty! ![]() |

My pics are not at all good -with such accomplished photogrpahers, I am just a minion. Everyone is so nice here that they appreciate even these pics! :P
As soon as you turn towards Rohru, the ride suddenly turns from a MotoGP into Paris Dakar Rally. The Pulsar 220 passed with flying colors in all test so far. On straight NH1, it was cruising with composure and on Curving roads after Kalka, transformed into a street bike ready to eat corners and anything which came in its path. Once the path roads ended and gravel started, the rear tyres had enough traction to stick even at harpins and suspension was serving its purpose with great zeal. On Day 1 we reached Kotkhai and checked into the PWD guest house. We were planning to reach Kharapathar that day but we could not. There was heavy traffic (yes!), bad roads, darkenss has fallen and we had no freaking idea where we would get next accomodation if we crossed Kotkhai! Day 2: Paid Rs 300 to the care taker for letting us stay even when s minister was staying the guest house and left for Rohru, had breakfast there and started with a determination to conquer Chansal Pass. From Rohru to Chirgaon the roads are good and after chirgaon the roads starts detoriating. The torturous narrow road starts from Tikri with loose sharp stones, mud, steep gradient and loose gravel thrown at you all the same time. The Challenge Starts ![]() An off-roader/ Track bike/ Cruiser/ City bike! An off-roader for now!
