Default Green Route Trek

Starting point: Bangalore
Day: Friday ( 06/19)
Team size: 8

This was under the cards from a very long time. It was tough for all of us to get ourselves ready for this amazing trek and we finally decided to go after a huge opposition from the rest of the gang ( we are group of 46 people).
Trekking in monsoon is not advisable specially in Western ghaats due to incessant rains and leeches which would suck your blood to leave you anemic.

We gathered ourselves @ around 9 30 in front of the KSRTC bus stand ( popularly known as Majestic).

Some details on the stuff we carried before I can begin the log:

Trek Gear: Trekking shoes/Walking shoes, sleeping bags, Torch, Whistles, Umbrellas, Jackets etc..
Food stuff: Loads of Chapathis packed ( around 150), Fruits, Rice, utensils for cooking, Diesel, Knives, Glucose etc...

okay, here goes a brief description of the trek route ( from Wikipedia) :

Green Route is the famous segment along the Bangalore and Mangalore railway line in India, within the pristine part of Western Ghat mountain ranges often called the trekker's paradise.

This is the segment on the railway track from Sakaleshpura to the Kukke Subramanya Road station. This is a unique beautiful spot in the whole railway track because of the dense green forest in which it is situated. This stretch of the track with length about 52+ km has around 50+ tunnels and bridges with length varying from few meters to 0.75 km and height varying from few meters to 200 + meters. The tunnels are absolute terrestrial abyss.

This is one of the most picturesque spot (route) in the Western Ghats of the South Kanara and Hassan districts of Karnataka. You can either start from the Sakleshpura or Subramanya Road Station. The trek is famous for the absolute wilderness that one may encounter during the trek and the beautiful rivulets, landscapes and breath taking bridges. The trek is also famous for the frequent encounter with the wild elephants in the Gundya and Sakleshpur range.

Now, it's time for the log:

Friday:10:30 PM:

We board the Bangalore to Mangalore Bus and the conductor gets a rightful hang of where we guys were upto and even before we tel him where to go, he tells us that he would make arrangements to stop there ( the source of the trek starts 9 kms away from the bus stop). We were all excited and the journey started. We reached the place by around 4: 30 in the morning of Saturday.

Saturday:

We waited for the sunrise as we prepared ourselves for the trek. It was around 5 30 in the morning and it was time for us to begin the trek. The trek is mainly along the sleepers between the rails and initially sounded very comfortable and all of us were really confident of finishing our target of 20 kms to a station called Yedakumari. But later is when we realized that there were stones all around the sleepers which made our trek a hell with all sorts of pain around the legs.
Okay enough of my talking now..Time for some pics on the way

Its around 5 hours from Mysore. Best thing to do is to board a bus to Sakleshpur and then you can start trekking from there.

The weather is best during the autumn ( somewhere near Oct-Nov times), but we got what we wanted during this amazing trek.

Would update day2 logs which has more excitement tomorrow.
