Default My new year night 2010

This 2010, had been a different and memorable new year for me. I wish to have a loooooong highway journey at night for long time . 31st afternoon I thought like whats wrong in having a ride to my native place Pudukkottai from Coimbatore.

Yes decided. Left from office by 5 PM. Rushed to house to take things for my long weekend. Not more than 10 minutes. Triggered my glady towards Shanti gears bunk to fill my tank.

COIMBATORE TO KARUR

It is 06-15 PM I started my historic, memorable (put as many superlatives here ) journey from Singanallur. The ride is a bit difficult till Sulur military airport due to peak hour traffic. In addition the road is under repair at many places. I was oscillating between 50 to 60. Sulur is an apt example for worst traffic. You can see the people on the road always. People and cows will be crossing without worrying about highway traffic.

After Sulur the journey is pleasant. I could see a big white moon started to rise. Wow its a full moon day man. It made me crazy to increase my enthoo. Crossed Palladam and Pongalur with heavy wind and worst lorry traffic. Once we get into Karur highway the road is good enough to rise the throttle. The road was surrounded by Coconut farm fields well lite by moon . Reached Kangayam at 7-15 had a dosa with tea to make my tank full this time.

Started again and drove towards Karur. The road was smooth. With full light failure, the reflectors at the corners and centre part of the road.. Wow. It is very useful to guess the route. Passed Vellakoil at no time I rushed to Karur with full swing. The pleasant ended when I met with roads under repair again . With heavy lorry traffic on both lanes moving in lessthan 20 KMPH. Need to take forced overtakings. In some places need to stop. The ride was really like horse (up and down)!

With uncontrollable thirst and interest boosted by fellow drivers I reached Karur by 9-15. I am happy because my guess is to cross Karur after 10-00.

RIDE ON CAUVERY'S BANKS
After Karur the entire road is under renovation and extension. The journey is bad in its kind. Full of dirt and worst route. It is memorable moon darshan from Lalapet Bridge in the midst of Coconut trees.

I could see the born of new year. Very many youths in many places drawing new year wishes on the Road. Infact I have been stopped at a place called Pettavaithalai, I was really worried because they may be drunkards . But they were nice. Got couple of chocolates from them too . After sharing wished and hand shakes I rushed at the banks of Cauvery. It is one good thing to see the glittering river in moonlight.

I reached crossed Trichy at 11-15 to 11-20. I a very happy to ride inside Trichy because I was roaming in those streets in my college days. Gandhi market is as busy as always. People gathering at churches. Policemen giving 'new year gift' to eve teasers and drunkards on the road ; Trichy is busy in new year night.

THE FINAL DESTINATION - NH210
The non stop journey continued towards Pudukkotttai in NH 210. Being well known route and chilled weather, I was mostly at 80+ now. Stoppped once again at village 'Kulathoor' by new year celebration guys. Got some more chocolates. (I saw ants coming out my petrol tank pouch the next day. alas, I forgot to take those chocolates out!!!!) Reached my home at 12-20 night.

Mom was asking about the dirt in my face unaware of my bike journey

Things experienced
Night journey is riskier because
1. Light failure. I was not able to recognise people crossing the road in high speeds
2. Drivers Agony. Mostly the drivers are not tripping the lights. Even drivers of TNSTC.
3. Better not to travel in roads under repair.

Total Distance: 265KMs
Time taken: 06 hrs and 05 minutes

Max Speed reached
90+ @ Kangayam - Vellakoil NH 67
80+ @ Trichy - Pudukkottai NH 210

NO PICS

Good Narration. You did not have even your cell phone camera

You are right about people crossing. It at least makes me stay in the speed limit

Nice narration. Some snaps would have been interesting as well. But your narration made up for the lack of snaps

Sad you have to put up with all that bad roads - the roads seem to be in construction forever and never getting completed.

I always prefer not to drive after sunset except in unavoidable circumstances.

Wow. great compliment!
Roads are bad - yes. But once all the work is finished, we can fly on NH 67, am sure. So lets take it for granted for the long term benefit!

Driving after sunset - you are correct! Had this out of curiocity!

Thanks murillo, for your detailed comment.
