Day 3: Khajuraho, Southern Group of Temples

After visiting Jain Temples, I wasn’t sure where to head next. Asked around and was told of two temple clusters in opposite direction. Decided to check out the Southern Group of Temples first (Duladeo and Chaturbhuja Temples) and then visit the Eastern Group.

In order to reach the Southern Group of Temples from Jain Temples, one needs to backtrack till the first roundabout and then take a left. The road continues straight through the narrow lanes of Khajuraho, before opening up in front of the Duladeo Temple.

Duladeo Temple is dedicated to Lord Siva and although has some similarities to other Temples of Khajuraho, it is quite different as well.

Sadly when I went there, its mahamandapa (sanctum sanctorum) was locked, so I had to contend with shooting photographs from outside.

After spending sometime at the Duladeo Temple, I headed towards the Chaturbhuja Temple, which is located a couple of km away and one has the ride on a narrow road with lush fields on both sides to get to Temple.

Chaturbhuja Temple is the only developed Temple in Khajuraho, which does not contain any erotic statues and is currently undergoing heavy restoration work on the outside.

Chaturbhuja Temple's sanctum features a beautifully made statue of lord Vishnu.

After a while it was time to get back on my motorcycle and head back towards Khajuraho, using the same lovely route and this time I decided to take a short break.

Thanks, if I buy a DSLR, probably my shooting would get less as I am too lazy to get in to the effort of taking a DSLR out of the bag each time

Thanks Amit, tell me about it! Never in my life had I taken off shoes so many times during a day! I was seriously regretting not wearing slippers that day!

Whoa...my words fall short of describing the beauty of these temples and the way you have captured them. Thank you Yogesh for bringing Khajuraho to us in this way
