Day 3: Khajuraho, Kandariya Mahadeva Temple
Kandariya Mahadeva Temple is the largest and loftiest temple in Khajuraho. It is 30.5 meter in length and height and 20 meters in width. Archeologists claim it was built between 1025-1050AD. ![]() ![]() Kandariya Mahadeva also has the grandest of sikharas, which is decorated with 84 replicas of itself. To say it is breathtaking, would be an understatement and no amount of photographs can ever do justice to its grand sikhara, which is spectacular to say the least. ![]() Kandariya Mahadeva is dedicated to lord Shiva and has a Shiva Linga in its sanctum sanctorum. ![]() Few photographs of the statues inside the Kandariya Mahadeva Temple ![]() ![]() ![]() Couple of photographs of the statues on the outer walls of Kandariya Mahadeva ![]() ![]() <Previous Next> Day 1: Delhi - Agra - Gwalior - Jhansi Day 2: Jhansi - Chhatarpur - Bambitha - Khajuraho Day 3: Khajuraho, Visvanatha Temple and Nandi Shrine Day 3: Khajuraho, Parvati Temple Day 3: Khajuraho, Lakshmana Temple Day 3: Khajuraho, Lakshmana Temple, Part-2 Day 3: Khajuraho, Jagadambi and Chitragupta Temples Day 3: Khajuraho, Adivart Tribal and Folk Art Museum and ASI Museum Day 3: Khajuraho, Jain Temples and Museum Day 3: Khajuraho, Southern Group of Temples Day 3: Khajuraho, Eastern Group of Temples Day 3: Khajuraho, Sound and light show Day 4: Khajuraho, Raneh Falls and Ken Gharial Sanctuary Day 4: Khajuraho, Folk Dance Performance Day 5: Khajuraho - Jhansi - Gwalior - Agra - Delhi

The book is called "The Age of Kali". I have also read "The City Of the Djinns" this week also by William Dalrymple. Its all about Deli's history. Dalrymple is really a scholar of Indian history and religion. It's amazing to learn the amount of Scotsmen who came to India in the 1700's in the early colonial days. Some real characters ..........There was a William Fraser from Moniack (which is 10 miles from Inverness) who came over and I think his house still exists in Deli to this day just on the north part of Old Deli. This man turned into an indian and followed the religion and got married under Hindu ritual. Even had his own hareem. Hee, Hee. It's an amazing story. Another good author I have been reading is a Mark Tully who was born in India and worked for the BBC there. Quite interesting also. Great travelogue as usual Scott |

Thanks Scott, I have been thinking of reading The City Of the Djinns for a while now. But I am not much of a book reader, so couldn't till now. I guess I will pick it up soon.
