The World’s Fastest Indian
Before you start thinking that I am talking about Narain Karthikeyan let me clear the air by saying that I am talking about a movie called “The Worlds Fastest Indian”. And no it’s not about an Indian or even a Red Indian, this movie is about a man and his passion for making his Indian Motorcycle the fastest Indian Motorcycle in the world.
The lead role in this movie cum movie biography is played by Sir Anthony Hopkins who plays the role of Herbert James Munro a.k.a. Burt Munro the legendry New Zealand Motorcycle racer and National hero.
Despite the fact that at some points this movie contradicts some of the stuff I have read about Burt Munro on Internet and even states some facts and records wrongly, it is quite a good movie to watch. Even though the theme of the movie revolves around setting the record in Bonneville Salt Flats, but the way movie has been picturized it becomes a journey against odds and adds to whole theme of the movie. I would recommend this as a must watch movie not only to petrol heads (okay you can watch it even if you like diesel cars/bikes), but also to those who love to travel, since most of this movie centers around Burt Munro journey to Bonneville.
Anthony Hopkins acting is top notch and he gets hats off from me for playing the part Burt Munro so well. Other aspects of the movie are quite good and at time it feels like you are actually watching documentary rather than a movie! I don’t mean that in a negative sense!
Dialogs of the movie are quite good and there is a liberal dose of quotes and philosophy thrown in. however the best quote that I came across was from Burt Munro himself (not in the movie!):
“At the Salt in 1967 we were going like a bomb. Then she got the wobbles just over half way through the run. To slow her down I sat up. The wind tore my goggles off and the blast forced my eyeballs back into my head - couldn’t see a thing. We were so far off the black line that we missed a steel marker stake by inches. I put her down - a few scratches all round but nothing much else.” — re his record run, traveling at close to 331 km/h (205.67 mph).
This coming from a person who was 68years old at that time!
My 2 cents watch the movie, it is the best motorcycle movie /docmeteary that I come across till now.
