Pulsar 200 and Pulsar 220: is Bajaj going nuts?

First Bajaj announced their impending exit from the 100cc segment in favor of 125cc segment, and then came the upgraded Pulsar 150DTSI, which once again put the 150 along side the recently upgraded Pulsar 180DTSI. Now came the news of impending launch of Pulsar 200 DTSI with oil cooling and updated styling to boot. With signs still that the Pulsar 220 DTS-Fi is still on the cards and would be launched shortly after the launch of Pulsar 200.
While the speculations are on about what really is Bajaj Autos strategy, the truth is no one knows. While some might call this an attempt to confuse consumers and others will call it big mistake on the part of Bajaj by pitting its own vehicles amongst themselves.
The truth is, if I was running a two wheeler company or for that matter any other company, I would much rather see people getting confused about which product they should pick from my offerings, rather than comparing them with other manufacturers offerings! After all in a Pulsar vs. Pulsar fight, it’s Bajaj who will win!
Offering right mix of styling upgrades, coupled with performance and price increase, yet utilizing the same assembly line and parts bin to bring down production cost and ultimately reducing overall cost by sharing same technology thus requiring minimum up training for the service level staff is quite ingenious. Theoretically it should work and pay dividend not only in the near future, but also in years to come.
However how well this theory works is up to the market forces to decide…
