The Dhoom effect…
After watching Dhoom-2 yesterday, I remembered the bad things being said about it by few biker friends of mine. Pretty much similar to what I had heard when Dhoom was released and in few respect even worse! Same biker friends of mine, who had previously said Dhoom was a joke, were saying Dhoom-2 couldn’t meet the expectations set by Dhoom!!!

If you were to ask me as a biker what my critical analysis would be of Dhoom and Dhoom-2, then I would say they are a joke! That’s right; I think both of them are a joke.
After all how many times do you see a Suzuki Bandit winning drags against liter class sports bikes, a Maruti Gypsy and a Royal Enfield keeping up with Suzuki Hayabusa, motorcycles jumping through air like they have rockets attached to them and who can forget the ridiculous fake flames that came out of the exhausts of Hayabusa every time John Abraham pushed the NOS button.
Even in Dhoom 2 these jokes continue, bikes still fly and so do heroes, not to mention electro-magnetic propulsion being used by Hrithik Roshan to go faster on skates than Suzuki Bandit!
In fact apart from the fact that one can see motorcycles in these movies, there is nothing even remotely connected to biking.
However once I stop seeing it from the perspective of a hardcore biker, I have to admit it has had an impact in general.
From the road side modification shops setting up shops overnight to cash in on the “Dhoom” craze to stunters who have gained more exposure in the eyes of media and general public to Johan Abraham wannabes who ride without helmets to impress the opposite sex.
However one person has gained most from all this, despite the fact that he failed to score a part in Dhoom-2. You guessed it right; I am talking about John Abraham.

From capturing the hearts of lakhs of girls, to being called a biking icon of India. Some thing which has lend him lucrative contracts with Castrol, Yamaha among others. Even though he does likes to ride motorcycles, I doubt he has done any thing other than acting in Dhoom that gets him a mention in media when ever biking in India is being discussed!
In fact I feel it is the media that has over hyped Dhoom and has tried to make it synonymous with biking since an average journalist hardly knows any thing about biking apart from the fact that John rides a big import in the movie which costs a lot! This is why they try to cover their inadequacies by bringing Dhoom in to the equation when they are given the task of doing a story that relates to biking.
All that I can say is, I didn’t started biking because of Dhoom and most probably you didn’t either. So let’s enjoy them for what they are, few hours of time pass. Oh yes to all those John Abraham wannabes, get a life!

hehe … This reminds me of a promise I made to myself when Dhoom 2 was released, to never watch that movie. It was broken shortly after I saw a news report on Aaj-Tak (it was tuned to that channel in my office cafeteria, couldn’t help it !!) which said that bike accidents in Patna increased a lot after the release of Dhoom 2. I decided to check out the movie to write a review about it for my website.
Took about 2 days to regain composure and the use of brain cells. I decided not to write a review because I just couldn’t be impartial.
I talked to the Ed just about 2 hrs ago and somehow the topic of Dhoom came up. The Ed said that it’s a nice movie !!! I thought he was being sarcastic, but he ended up trying to convince me that it was good fun
I think this blog’s gonna get hot now … lol
