Why Potholes are good

Potholes, some thing all of us in India are oh so familiar with. We complain about them, we curse them and we curse our government for not fixing them.

But have you ever wondered how beneficial these potholes really are?

They are part of our heritage and culture and have come to symbolize Indian roads. Curse them and hate them, but the moment you drive/ride on a pothole free stretch you will start remembering them, in fact you will be missing them. And the first sentence to come out of your mouth would be: there are no potholes here!!!

So here is my tribute to India’s legendary pothole infested roads with top 5 reasons, why potholes are good for us…

Number 5 reason, why potholes are good: They are a wonderful way to reduce the speed at which a vehicle can travel, there by reducing chances of some one getting knocked down by a speeding vehicle.

Number 4 reason, why potholes are good: They are the reason we get tough vehicle which can with stand war like situations. After all how bad can our roads really become if you drop couple of bombs on them?

Number 3 reason, why potholes are good: They are one of the main reasons why road travel in India is so adventurous and fun; else we would be bored like Americans, who have to drive/ride on their boring straight and super smooth highways. After all cruising in top gear isn’t nearly as much fun as dodging potholes every few meters while driving in third.

Number 2 reason, why potholes are good: They teach us to cherish simple things in life, like a 500 meter stretch of freshly laid tarmac with no potholes.

And the Number 1 reason, why potholes are good: If there were no potholes this list wouldn’t have existed, so enjoy them and while you are at it try and make a few more.

Happy touring…
