A bridge has collapsed in Muling, which falls between Sissu and Tandi Villages on the Manali - Leh Highway. The bridge is question was inaugurated just 5 months ago and while an inquiry has been ordered into its collapse, it remains to be seen how this bridge collapse would impact the traffic on Manali - Leh Highway, since there is no way to rebuild it before the route reopens.
Juley Yogesh sir.
The above bridge was constructed just before 5 months for the villagers of Muling and it collapsed recently but it doesn't come on the Manali- Leh route and it will not affect the travelers doing Manali - Leh. Yes it is just before the Tandi Bridge. A team of engineers have reached there by air about a week ago to inquire in to the matter and to get the samples. Juley sir.Ji.

Manali - Leh Highway snow clearing operations begins, road is expected to be reopened by June.

Col KP Rajendra Kumar, Commander, 38 Border Road Task Force (BRTF), Manali, said they would restore the 222-km stretch up to Sarchu by May, while the remaining stretch would be opened for the vehicular traffic by June.

He said they had already cleared snow on a 21-km stretch. Today, they started the operation from Gulaba after performing a yajana. They would now clear snow from a 30-km stretch up to Rohtang Pass (13,050 ft), the gateway to Lahaul-Spiti valleys.

On the first day, the BRO encountered around seven feet snow. Some patches on the highway were covered under more than 30 feet of snow. Around 100 BRO personnel were engaged in the operation, sources said.

The Commander said dozens of dozers, snow cutters and excavators had been pressed into service on both sides of the road to make it motorable. The work to clear snow usually starts in the first week of March. But this time, the restoration of the highway, which is of strategic importance from the defence point of view, was delayed due to prolonged unfavourable weather conditions.

Hello,
We are 5 people and planning our trip from srinagar to leh. we wish to take leh- manali route in return. Our date of leaving leh will be nearly 29th may. Will that route be open in those dates or we should nt take chance and get back to jammu via leh to srinagar route??
Thank you.

@Smiral Desai route might reopen by then, however road would be in quite bad condition, especially at Baralacha La, where the road would likely be quite narrow and full of snow, ice and water. If you are ok with the idea of tackling that, you can certainly take the Manali route while coming back, otherwise Srinagar route would be safer.

Hi everyone!
This is my first ever post in here. Let me first start by expressing my admiration for this forum i bumped into few weeks back. Since then ive got kind of glued to it, going through all the travelogues and various other threads non stop. You all are doing an awesome job! :)
Now coming back to the question. We are a group of 4 planning our first ever 20 days road trip from Kanpur, UP to Leh passing through Nainital, Rishikesh and Manali (with 1 day stopover at each location). We intend to start our journey around 10-15 June (with hope that the Leh-Manali highway will open by the time we'll reach Manali) and will be driving a 2001 hyundai accent (car is in good condition). But after going through last year's road status thread, i learned that vehicles older than 10 years will not be allowed on the leh-manali highway. But we are willing to take the risk.
1. Can someone from last year please testify if they are actually implementing this rule strictly? (Cos some travellers mentioned in last year's thread that they crossed check post around 5 in the morning and no one asked them anything about the age of their vehicle)
2. If they are, then will they allow us to ply after paying the fine amount?
3. And if in case they dont allow us to go any further then we'll have to take the srinagar-leh highway (we will only go through that route when we are left with no choice). So which route should we take to reach Srinagar from Manali and how will be the road conditions during that time?
Thanks!
