This thread is being started to keep track of the status of the Manali – Leh Highway in 2018.

The highway had closed for public on the 22nd of November 2017 and is expected to reopen in end of May or early June 2018.

Manali - Leh Highway Status: Officially closed for traffic on 17-10-18.

Any snowfall or avalanche can close the road easily in the next couple of days, so those planning to travel soon, please keep buffer days in hand as well as food, while traversing the highway.

So let me also post the first good news of snowfall,

This forecast is for 11 Dec 17, Monday,
so have fun where ever you go in the white area.

And this will in all probability be the first snowfall in Manali itself.

happy landings

A biker BCMTian did it recently and went till top. It was doable but beware of the cold conditions. Stay at Temple at night.

The real issue is, the road is supposed to get closed in winter, so in case you’re there and there is heavy snowfall, you could get stuck! So make sure to check with the caretaker of PWD/FRH there and also the weather forecast.

Hello friends,

Me and my wife are planning to goto Leh Ladakh in my Santro Xing in the month of Sept 2018.

I am planning to take the below route.

Bangalore-Pune-Nasik-Indore-Ratlam-Jaipur-Amritsar-Srinagar-Kargil-Leh.

While coming I am planning to come via Manali so in this case I don't need any permit.(Correct me if I am wrong)

Planning for 16 day trip up and down.

Please give any suggestions. While I be able to see snow during my visit? If no which month should I go?

From South India any one is planning to drive down to Leh Ladakh, please let me know. We can plan together....

Thanks.

Rohit

No permit needed for Returning from Leh via Rohtang towards Manali.

Snow can be there on your Ladakh route at high passes.
You may see snowfall also.
