Rescue posts have been setup at Marhi and Kokhsar. These rescue posts are setup each year to help locals crossing Rohtang Pass on foot. Hundreds of locals risk their lives by wading through the heavy snow on foot to cross Rohtang Pass, before it is made motorable. Rohtang Pass is expected to reopen in the first week of May.

Hello everyone,

Please suggest me dates so I will start my bike journey.
First post of this thread have expected / trending opening time.
Please read needed information regularly.

June last week may be good for attempting to cross Kunzum and Sach Pass. You may be able to cross Kunzum Pass easily, but Sach Pass will be little tricky if weather goes bad.

Keep plan B, C & D for returning to your home city in time or with delay of few / couple of days.
LOL !

You can find latest information on the road conditions of Lahaul, Spiti and Sach Pass (Pangi Valley) in 2019. We will also keep this thread update with the news of tentative opening dates of Rohtang Pass, Kunzum La, Chandertal and Sach Pass. So make sure to subscribe to this thread for regular updates.

Shimla – Kaza (Spiti Valley) Road Status: Open, with heavy snow accumulation on the road.

Manali - Kaza Road Status ( via Rohtang and Kunzum): Currently closed, expected to reopen in first or second week of June.

Manali - Lahaul Road Status: Currently closed, expected to reopen in first week of June.

Chandertal Road Status: Currently closed, expected to reopen in second or third week of June.

Rohtang Pass Road Status: Currently closed, expected to reopen in last week of May.

Sach Pass Road Status (Pangi Valley): Currently closed, expected to reopen in second week of June.

Permit for Rohtang Pass:
Online permit registration for going beyond Rohtang Pass is now open and can be done from the following link, Tourism Development Council Manali (H.P.)-InformatoryScreen. The permit would only be issued to vehicles which are less than 10 years old and this permit isn’t for people who are just going to up to Rohtang Pass (if you return from Rohtang, your vehicle will be blacklisted.)

WEATHER UPDATE. 16 and 17 Apr 2019

Looks like the WD approaching just got bigger.
Possibly the last big WD of the season.

So if you missed the snowfall,
now is the time to head to himalayas.
The further you go, the better the chance of snowfall.

For 17 Apr, there are two images,
one is earlier in the day, and one is later in the day.
lot of rainfall so be careful of landslide.

be safe
Happy Landings

Fresh snowfall occurred yesterday at Rohtang Pass.

------------------

Tourists had a gala time enjoying fresh snow at Gulaba on the Manali-Rohtang Highway on Wednesday. The Rohtang Pass experienced 6 inches of snow. The higher reaches experienced snowfall while the lower reaches were lashed by rain.

Snow clearance operation by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) was hampered due to the inclement weather. The BRO has been engaged in the clearance of snow from the Rohtang Pass to throw open the Manali-Keylong road for traffic. Meanwhile, the administration halted the movement of commuters who cross the Pass on foot to go in or out of the Lahaul valley. Security check posts at Marhi and Koksar also witnessed fresh snow.

The upper reaches of Lahaul and Spiti valley and the peaks of Baralacha, Kunzum Pass, Hanuman Tibba and Khardung La received snow, while the lower reaches received rain. — OC

Mandi, April 21

Giving relief to residents of tribal Lahaul-Spiti, the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) on Sunday permitted locals to use the Rohtang tunnel from the Manali side towards Lahaul-Spiti.
Over 1,000 residents of Lahaul-Spiti have been stranded in Kullu-Manali for the past few months because of the closure of 13,050 ft Rohtang Pass, the gateway to Lahaul on the Manali-Leh highway.
The pass receives heavy snowfall during winter, which cuts it off from the rest of the state for more than six months.

After the BRO permission, the Lahaul-Spiti administration transported around 400 persons from Kullu-Manali towards Lahaul and 110 from the Lahaul side towards Kullu via the Rohtang tunnel in HRTC buses and other vehicles. The HRTC authority has pressed seven buses into service.
The tunnel has been closed since December because of heavy snowfall. It was restored two days ago. However, the BRO seemed in no mood to allow the movement of common people via the tunnel as the construction work is going on.It gave permission to those who had requested to be airlifted between Kullu and Lahaul.
The BRO had demanded a list of these people from the administration.
Earlier, the BRO had given permission to poll staff to use the tunnel, which irked Lahaul-Spiti residents. They threatened to launch a massive protest on Sunday, but the BRO pacified them, saying they would access to the stranded people via the tunnel.
Mangal Manepa, regional manager, HRTC, Keylong, said over 1,000 persons were stranded in Kullu-Manali.
Deputy Commissioner Lahaul Spiti Ashwani Kumar Chaudhari said the people would be allowed to use the tunnel only on Sunday.
A large number of people are still waiting for gaining access from the Kullu side towards Lahaul and the BRO will decide when to let them cross the tunnel.
