Hello all,

Sharing my latest drive experience in my 'Vaayu' (Swift-D) over the weekend 10th & 11th March 2018 to Mata Vaishno Devi. My co-travellers were my colleagues Subbu, Manpreet and Manpreet's wife on this trip.

We started from Manpreet's house in Janakpuri at sharp 00:00 and reached Katra at 09:00 am on 10th March 2018. A Flat drive of 9 hours includes 15 minutes of tea break and 3-4 bio breaks (5 to 7 minutes each) and less than 10 minutes on all the Toll gates due to FasTag. I have driven from Delhi to Katra multiple times before but this time FasTag experience was super.

Below are our noted time log at places enroute: -

Ludhiana - 04:00 am (Gaurav)
Pathankot - 6:30 am (Subbu)
Katra - 9:00 am (Manpreet)

Total Drive was for 654 kilometres.
Toll charges we have paid 615.00 rupees all via FasTag.

Hotel Continent Panchvati was pre-booked as they are our regular host from last couple of visits. We checked in early by 10:00 am after having breakfast at Sagar Ratna and slept till 4:00 pm. Started trekking at 7:00 pm with a plan of returning by 7:00 am on 11th March so that we can catch up with some sleep and start our journey back to home.

Trekking log noted below: -

Adhkuwari - 09:00 pm
Bhawan - 11:10 pm
Bhairon Mandir - 03:15 am
Adhkuwari - 05:20 am
Katra - 07:30 am

After reaching Katra, we decided to stay back in hotel for some more hours so that we can take much required sleep for long hours. We checked out from hotel by 5:45 pm on 11th March and started our journey back home.

Jalandhar - 10:15 pm (Subbu) - Dinner break till 10:50 pm
Janakpuri - 03:10 am (Gaurav)

That is how we ended our another trip with a good drive, hoping to start another trip soon – very soon J

That's pretty fast I must say.

Earlier we used to cover that road in around 11 hours with multiple breaks and long waits at toll-booths.
Darshans were also done in almost similar timings, but we never did it in 2 days flat. 3 days were minimum for us. One of the reason was me being the sole driver.

Will you recommend Fast-Tag to us for this stretch atleast? Will it be same effective during rush hours during day time?

Hi Gaurav, I am driving to katra on 29th March 2018 and expecting to reach by 6-7 pm same day . On hotels I prefer budget hotel for family , I have selected few hotels , Jai MA inn , hotel trinanyni , imperial hotel .. I am getting pretty decent rates on Goibibo. What do you suggest ?

Looking forward to your experience of heavy rush during the extended weekend of 29 Mar-01 Apr!
We managed to get enough of time with Darshan, and we stayed at Bhawan in night and came back next morning. And then news flown-in that Yatra had been suspended due to unprecedented rush.

Yes I will recommend FasTag, it works superb on NH1 and crossing tolls are very quick.

This was my 3rd road trip to Mata Vaishno Devi, earlier one was done with family with single driver (Me). Almost same timings i.e. approx 9 hours Mukarba to Katra with single break. Actually night drives are comparatively faster.

BTW I did Delhi to Pahalgam in 16 hours on 29th March 2018 :)
