After going to the cold climes you have become a polar bear. They also keep sleeping most of the time :D

    26th December 2011, Leh - Alchi

Got up early in the morning after a refreshing night of sleep and could see this view from the window.

Was happy to find at least some cloud cover, woke up Rahul and started getting ready. After breakfast, Rigzin arrived as well and we headed to the DC Office, since the first task of the day was to get the inner line permit. Staff at the DC Office was nice enough to grant us the permit for the following in 10 minutes flat; Pangong Tso, Man, Merak, Chushul, Tsaga, Loma, Nyoma, Mahe, Hanle, Tso Moriri and Koyul.

After the permit done, we headed to the Leh office of Indian Institute of Astrophysics, to let them know that we had arrived in Leh and would be heading to Hanle in a couple of days. Once we arrived there, there was no one around, barring a single soul, who informed us that the office was closed due to Losar.

Since the permission we got to stay at Hanle, specifically mentioned that we could either drop off permissions at Leh or at Hanle itself, we thought nothing of it and headed out to Alchi.

En route saw few kids playing Ice Hockey on a frozen lake.

After a few photographs, we got on the way as well and then stopped en route at Nimmu, where Rigzin wanted to eat chole bhature and I gorged on some decent samosa and chai. Once our tummies somewhat filled, we hit the Leh - Srinagar highway once again.

Once at Alchi, we got treated to some really good views.

And while the Alchi Monastery looked quite tempting, restriction of using camera inside, kept us outside.

And after a short while, we decided to hit the road again, this time to Likir...

I get goosebumps on visualising the worst case scenario of ice breaking and people drowning!
