Accommodation - Pangong, Tso Moriri, Nubra.

All,

Might be a silly question - but how easy would it be to find decent accommodation if booked on the spot and not in advance, in places outside of Leh such as Pangong, Tso Moriri or Nubra.

I am sure Nubra has many options (Diskit, Sumur, Hunder), and so does Leh itself. So we should find acco. somewhat easily in these places I believe. But please confirm if I am being over-confident.

I certainly am concerned about availability in July for Pangong and especially Tso Moriri (I can see only Korzok listed as an expensive option in the latter's case, and there are not too many options in Pangong that are decent enough for a group of 5 considering there are 2 females in the group.)

We are roughly planning to be in Pangong overnite on some night between 20th-23rd July, and for Tso Moriri it would roughly be any night between 25th-29th July depending on how the itinerary evolves. In case we just have no options, maybe we can shell out money in one place, but hopefully not all.

And given we are even willing to pay, what are your experiences about any places being vacant for 4-5 people (at least 2 separate rooms) in these places between these dates?

Thanks,
Shirish

When I say not decent enough, I only mean facilities wise btw.. :)
Eco Huts has improved it seems, but going by Yogesh's earlier write-up it was inexpensive but fit only for people who would not mind doing it... err... outdoors. :D

Most of the people going to Pangong or any remote place wants a comfortable stay with attached toilet,3 star hotel, room service etc etc, because of their fat wallet or not being able to withstand the difficulties.
My view is that Pangong like places are remote, hostile weather, strategically located with limited access to everyday comforts.Anyone looking for a home like stay is simply a tourist, who judges a place as right or wrong on the basis of his/personal physical comfort. Not a right thing.
Posting below a pic of my night stay at Pangong.Even though I was with two kids and it was raining whole night,i enjoyed the stay on the bank of Pangong because we were fully prepared for that situation.

Best of luck for your Ladakh ride.:)
Thanks :)
Any idea about rent per day for a single/double person camp and a sleeping bag in Leh?
This time am flying to Leh and will hitchhike to Pangong, camp there, attend festival at Shachukul (Durbuk mein kahin), then do a 3 day trek from Spituk to Stok, stay(home) in Stok for a day and fly back to Delhi... :)

Hi - agreed about the fact that one is only being optimistic if he hopes to be in a 3-star near Pangong :)

Actually I have been there before (not overnight) and really know the limitations. But this time around there are 2 females in the group and so I was trying to see if there was indeed something good enough for comparatively less.

Personally I do think "camps of ladakh" etc. charge one slightly on the higher side and I am not aware if their facilities are that great.

But a picture is better than a thousand words anyway - so thanks a lot for the same.

Where were these tents please? Lukung? Spangmik? Any contacts? Or do we just take one on the spot?

Puneet,
Which camps are you talking about? I guess we could be comparatively better off with 2/3 person tents with an attached toilet. I am sure you too were not thinking of booking these in advance...

Thanks,

We opted for home stay in Spangmik(Pangong Tso),We saw atleast 2-3 other home also offering similar facility. Clean toilet(western) but mostly outside the house.

we paid 150 per bed. Also they prepare food too so you get to stay in a Ladakhi household.

Camps are another option, a little expensive, but I would say Pangong isn't the best place to camp due to heavy wins at times.

There are many tents starting from Lukung till Spangmik.
Home stays are in Spangmik.
