Continued towards Jibhi after some time
IMG_5661.jpg

Reached our destination in Tandi after a very bad stretch of uphill road. Luggage unloaded by our host Dalipji and his helpers
IMG_5664.jpg

His dog, Nabokov, or Nabo in short, was very friendly so the two had a great time playing with each other

Freshened up and went for a walk in the surrounding fields and forest. A local woman out to cut grass

Love the expressions on Nabo's face
IMG_3052.jpg

Nabo finding it very strange that Muttley is possessive about a pine cone, an everyday occurrence for Nabo
IMG_3072.jpg

Was armed with zoom lens and binoculars, too, for birdwatching
IMG_3563.jpg

Writers Retreat, our AirBnB. We were in the tall house on left with an attic. Very comfortable, clean, good attached toilet with geyser

Nabo again

More homestays being built. Typical houses of stone and wood with mud plaster, warm in winter, cool in summer

Day 14, May 31: Time to relax with no driving. Instead enjoy the scenery along with a visit to the Tandi waterfall

An early morning intruder trapped inside my room! Let it out immediately before Muttley could investigate

Walked down to Negi's Place, the Reverberate Cafe, Jibhi, near the river for refreshing watermelon juice and masala peanuts. We took our time here because the road to our homestay was to be repaired and impassable till mid afternoon

IMG_3188.jpg

Finally the taxi driver suggested that we head back and walk the last kilometre to our place. Work temporarily halted due to lunch break

Dhanachuli, Kumaon trip, 10-14 Jun 2019

My son & family decided to escape to the hills. I love dogs and volunteered to come along with their German Shepherd, Theo. We went in two cars - the family in one and Theo and me in my car

Uneventful return to the heat and dust of Delhi

March plans for Paudhar, near Almora, derailed due to Covid19. Lockup for 6 months, raging fernweh, so moment tourists allowed into Uttarakhand, drove to Paudhar. Uttarakhand Govt condition requiring Covid-19 tests was removed on 22 Sep, the very day we got ours done! Filled complex online registration form, kept copies of all required documents. Foursome of driver-cum-housecleaner (self), cook (cousin), dishwasher & coffeemaker (daughter) planned to isolate in friend's empty house in Paudhar; two dogs also.

Drive-in Covid testing - swab from throat and then nose, latter briefly uncomfortable

Our route

Delhi-Paudhar.png

We left Delhi at 4.45 AM. Good road till Rampur, good & bad stretches between Rampur and UP-UK border as it is being 4-laned. We carried our own snacks and coffee. Stopped off NH at secluded spot as we had decided not to use public toilets as precaution against Covid.

IMG_3674.jpg

Shortly after that reached Uttarakhand checkpost, fully armed with eRegistration, Covid reports and other documents. They just took down details of passengers and from where to where we were travelling. Gave a slip with a number and stamp. Details again taken at Kathgodam and later near Nata Dol. Turning for Bhimtal just after Kathgodam

IMG_7980.jpg

Good cool hill road
IMG_7981.jpg

Another break

IMG_7982.jpg

Over the next week, saw spectacular sunrise and sunsets, moonrise, went for long walks in nearby forests, climbed the hills, watched birds and enjoyed nature. The Himalayas were only dimly visible.
