Bhutan Permit procedure

Forget it. Bhutanese enjoy plenty of National level and local level holidays and their immigration office remains closed in each and every occasion. I reached Phuentsholing on Sunday 29th October, and on 30th October morning when I walked down to the immi office, a police told me that it would be closed for that day as there was a "Chukha Festival" on that day - Bhutan was open only Phuentsholing was enjoying a holiday. And immi office, RSTA office, everything was closed that day - I lost the whole day spending in the dirty filthy Jaigaon.

Check this for holidays of Bhutan in 2017.

Well you cant blame the immigration office for that - one should have backup days for such eventualities when travelling to different country as no amount of research can prepare completely for their customs and practices , by the way you could have stayed in Phuentsholing they dont refuse stay there even if you are awaiting permit.

There was no process-wise delay. Just they went on holiday for a day, which was nowhere mentioned. They actually handle their immigration department very much casually.

I stayed very near to that place for 4 years, my college was just 50 km away from Phuentsholing. I have been to that town thrice or four times during my college days - so I know everything. The main problem was, my days were counted. I had to return back and my hotel was also booked at Paro. Wasting one full day at Jaigaon/Phuentsholing was the worst loss I had to suffer.

Friends we are planning for a cycling trip to Bhutan in group of 4.
1. is there any special permit needed for our bicycles or we need only person entry permission.
2. Please suggest a halt option in between Phuentsholing and Paro.
Thanks
