I learnt many things from a discussion on Facebook page of BCMTouring. When I was seeking help for finding a bike to do Manali - Leh circuit
https://www.facebook.com/groups/19646833128/permalink/10152492835983129/
thanks to Sameer Vaidya person who gave maximum suggestions.
Special mention Dhillon Sir dsd , Punit Gupta, Sanchit Tittal, Santosh Lekhak, Dhairya Gupta, Rahul Singh, Om Vaikul
The search is still on ….!!
Sharing what I got out of this discussion…!!
Brands
Trek – most famous
Firefox
Scott
Rockrider ( value for money )
Suncross
Montra (Indian brand)
BSA Hercules (Indian brand )
Price
start from Rs.9500 to and can go upto lacs
Hardtail
What I understood is that for this route rear suspension is not a good option.
Front suspension should have lock to save energy in uphill ride.
Gear
should be easy to manipulate
(shimano gears very common and good )
How to choose Size
when one stand with feet down on road…. There should be atleast 1.5 to 2 inch space between our jewel and horizontal frame of cycle.
Other important points
1. the FRAME of bike should be very tough to take impact of the bad roads
But should be light so that less energy is wasted in case one has to push the bike at some point of time.
2. Breaks with rubber pads are not useful in this route as they stop working in rain and slush.
I would like the members to give their suggestions so that people like me who have very little knowledge on this topic can benefit from it…!!
