2019 was not a good year as far as travel was concerned, first I was busy with my work, second the climate was not good, this part of country had received record rainfall creating a lot of problems, so once the monsoon got over I decided to take a much-needed break as I got 5 days off in Diwali but a day before the Diwali holidays I was down as I had leg strained and could not walk for three-four days. Finally, I got a holiday but my wife was busy with her work and assignments and son in his examination and friends were also busy. So I decided why not take a break and go solo.

I had 5 days in hand on, so next thing was to finalize destination, after considering two-three options I had to select a safe option with good connectivity, seeing my health, age (Everybody keeps reminding me that you have crossed 50). Finally decided on Goa as it is 365 days on holiday and requires no planning. No reservation. Informed my wife. She said what you will be doing there, you have visited so many times.

I have visited Goa n number of times with parents, friends, vacations, college trips, with wife, with wife and son many times, first when he was 3 months old ( His first outing was Goa). But this one has to be different, every trip is different. The last trip to Goa in Dec2014 was planned four hours before departure. No Plan, No Reservation only thing I had to return by Saturday morning. The first thought was of driving but dropped the plan of driving seeing the condition of roads and ongoing construction work.

This was My First Solo Trip to Goa Backpack type to explore less traveled GOA.

Day 1 - Monday 18-11-2019

Logged in to IRCTC luckily got a tatkal ticket of only daily train GOA express. The train leaves Pune at 4.35 pm Backpack packed. Booked OLA at 3 pm. Reached the station at 4.15 pm. The train was late- what a start. Finally, the train departs at 6 pm. The plane takes 55mins to GOA from PUNE. Had a good company in train compartment a Goan Hindu family, an afghan student studying in Goa and a Nun. This is the beauty of traveling by train. Got new information regarding an app RailYatri from fellow travelers which gives train status live announcement alarm to wake you up 20 min before your destination has arrived. And how it works as all were engineers.

This is the route the GOA Express takes.

Day 2- Tuesday 19-11-2019

The train reached Madgaon at 6.15 am. Took a pilot ( Two-wheeler taxi ) from the railway station to the city bus stand. Useful if you are solo. Rs 50. Now I had a rough plan to explore Canacona and its surrounding area. so I had to take a bus to Canacona from Madgaon.

1.jpg

Sunrise at City Bus Stand 6.48 am.

Got this bus. All bus going south Karwar, Karnataka Kerela pass-through Canacona.

madgoan to Canacona.jpg

Canacona is the southernmost taluka of Goa 43 km south of Madgaon. The bus cost you Rs 35 and taxi Rs, 1500. buses operate every half hour. Palolem beach is at the centre of costal Canacona, Patnem, Colomb, Rajbaga, Galjibaga, Polem beach is south of Palolem. to the north of Palolem, we have Butterfly beach, honeymoon beach, Agonda, Cola fort of Cabo de Rama, Canaguinim beach.
Canacona.jpg

Reached Canacona bus stand again took a pilot to reach the hotel. Yesterday I had booked a room on my make my trip app. usually check-in is 12 but I had already requested for early check-in while booking so by 9.00 am I was at my first destination Cuba Patnem Resort (3 star)

Had planned to go up to fort of Cobo De Rama " cape of Rama" called because of Hindu belief that Lord Rama stayed here during his exile, later rebuild by Portuguese, now in ruins. dropped the idea as the forecast said there will be a shower after 3 pm and all the so-called beaches cola beach, Chota cola beach, Kakolem beach, Nuem Beach and Canaguinim beach are cove away and not easily accessible. Then I had a break for sugarcane juice and turned for Palolem Beach.
