Why did you go from Narkanda to Rohru; were you coming back from somewhere?

The normal route would be from Theog to Kharapathar to Rohru. The road is not in great shape but it's not very bad either.

I have been to Kotkhai recently, the road has lots of loose gravel but there are not many craters ( So there will be lots of dust). Further to Kotkhai heard the road gets bad but is drivable. You can easily take your car, no issues at all. Drive safe!

You don't need to go to Narkanda for Rohru

    Anup ji, I returned yesterday.

    Up : Chandigarh-Narkanda-Baggi-Tikker-Rohru-Larot

Narkanda-Baggi - Chipped stones, bumpy ride.
Baggi-Tikker - Road is good for first few kms and then it gets worse all the way till Tikker.
Tikker-Rohru - Mix of loose gravel and bumps.

    Down: Rohru-Kharapathar-Kotkhai-Chailla-Ochghat-Kumarhatti-Chandigarh.

    Rohru-Kharapathar: Dust, Loose gravel, bumps
Kharapathar-Kotkhai: Dust, more bumps and mud
Kotkhai-Chailla - Loose gravel, dust..more dust.. you loose hope.
Chailla-Ochghat - Mix of good and bad patches. But feels like heaven after riding through from above mentioned places.

Summary: Lot of bumps and dust. Road condition is like none I have seen. I mean I have seen worst in terms of quality but this road beats every other road in Himachal in terms of quantity. If I count from Larot, you get to ride on around 120-130 kms of bumps while eating dust.

If you'd taken the Theog route from Chailla you would not have eaten so much dust!
You chose to go on small country roads.
