Dear Ashok,

Apologies for the delay.
This is my project after I return to India...
So, I am kind of trying to pool knowledge resources, contacts, etc...
Lets keep in touch and update us on your progress..

BTW, where are you from?

came across this which I think can be more easy to convert to a caravan for 4 adults...
but i guess it can be registered as commercial and not as personal vehicle...
is it launched already??

While it looks easy, I doubt if it will have the muscle to run an AC in the back and the comfort of good suspension which a custom caravan would have.

I agree with your opinion, I had the same doubt, it has to be custom made though...
i think there is a possible solution for every mechanical problem now a days, provided we spend some money :(

as for AC, my idea of using it is during monsoon and winters...no way in summer...
but i guess still we need AC...

there are designers in kerala who have designed it however not sure on the price. so would not comment on the pricing. Also i wanted to know can we not have a Boxed trailer built and pull it using a pick up or a SUV is it not allowed as per Motor vehicles act.

I reached to some of the caravan designers in Kerala and the price quote is quite high, given my requirement. However, I think that is how the market is.
In my opinion a built in is better than a separate caravan, which we can pull using SUV, atleast for countries like India, where infrastructure is still in its nascent stage,
and also I think we have age old motor act and I am not sure if they have any flexible provisions for caravans
I contacted Dost and asked if it can be owned for private use and I was told, "No the RTO regulations do not permit personal registration."
So, there ends the story of my dreams of using DOST for caravan.
I have to see other options.

vehicles like TATA Winger can be privately owned. But Force Temp traveller, Dost, Swaraj Mazda all these are only commercial vehicles and you can never register them with white plates.

Force Temp Traveller are the first choice to convert to caravans, are you sure the cannot be owned for personal use?
I thought we can...

No sir they are not available for private use. its only commercial purpose hence white plates arent possible. TATA winger is the only vehicle that comes with both white and commercial plates. That too only in some states. however having said that there is an option of luxury taxis the cars with black plates and yellow numberings that is possible i guess.
