Does any one Knows Ooty?

HI All,

I am new here. My Name is Gopal Krishna. I live in Hyderabad. I am getting married this October. I am planning to go to honeymoon to Ooty. Can any one guide me regarding the following.

1. What is the Best season to Visit Ooty. Please suggest me in which month there is less crowd.
2. I am looking for Good Budget Hotel (My budget is between 800 to 1000 Per day). I want to stay 3 nights 4 days. So, please suggest me if any good budget hotels if you know.
3. What are must see places in ooty.
4. Can I get some travelling vehicles to visit nearest places.

I never been in Ooty. So, please kindly advise me.

April to mid June is the prime season in Ooty. From mid June to mid December is mid season but worth visiting as there'll be lesser crowd and also hotel tariffs would be nearly half of the prime season tariff.
I'd suggest Nalappad Residency and govt run Hotel Tamil Nadu should be the choices, given your budget. However, I'd suggest to increase your budget a bit more to have a more decent stay being this is your HM trip.
There are Doddabetta view point, Botanical Garden, Lake and Boating and several other places of touristy stuff in Ooty. Also Coonoor and Kotagiri, near by hill stations are worth visit.
Wait for someone more familiar with the area to step in...

Also, does any suggest me. Is Honeymoon packages are good. But it seems too much expensive.

Is it possible to travel in Toy Train after reaching Ooty.?

In my opinion,December is peak tourist season and finding an accommodation in a decent hotel becomes a difficult task hence pre-booking is highly recommended.
A small journey from ooty to nearby place like wellington on toy train is 'a must try'

The prices are almost three times in tourist season than during off season. There will generally be no packages during the peak season, or if they are available, they will be expensive.

You can check the wikitravel page on ooty to see some hotel recommendation in all budget ranges. Also, if you want it cheaper, look to the surrounding small cities, and not ooty proper.

You may have to go to mettupalayam to take the toy train.

First of all thank you so much for all your replies and help. Here I summarized and decided to go through this schedule.

Dates are tentative but will plan in Feb 2014.

Friday : Train From Secunderabad --> Coimbatore Main Junction [17230 - Sabari Express] starts at 12.30 PM and will reach Coimbatore Main Junction next day i.e. Saturday around 8:30 Morning.
Saturday : Will go to Ooty by Bus. It is nearly 2 - 3 hours of Journey. So, will reach ooty by afternoon.
Plan : Go to Hotel and Fresh up there. Will enquire Local Sightseeing Trips. I read in some websites, there are many travel agents are available. They will charge 150 to 250 Per head. So, once we decided. will back to hotel stay in hotel for the entire day i.e. Saturday.
Sunday : Will go and enjoy the sightseeing. [From morning 9.30 to evening 6.30]. Come back to Hotel and stay in Hotel for the night.
Monday : Morning will go to local shopping and will plan if there is toy train journey available from ooty to any of the place & Will spend up to evening here and there.
Tuesday : will vacate the hotel and come back to Hyderabad.

Is this is a good plan? or Did I missed any thing? Please advise.

ooty by bus will take you 3 to 3.5 hours minimum, from the station you will have to travel to the metupalayam road bus stand to get buses for ooty, railway station to metupalayam bus stand can be done in local city buses or by auto/rikshaw (mind you rickshaws do not follow meter in coimbatore and will be pretty expensive)

the train starts at ooty station and stops enroute at lovedale, ketti, wellington, coonoor, and you will have to travel back to ooty, instead, take the toy train all the way down to metupalayam on your return journey, depending upon your depature from coimbatore to hybrabad, or you can also plan to do upto coonoor and then take a bus from coonoor to coimbatore

Tuesday : will vacate the hotel and come back to Hyderabad.

Is this is a good plan? or Did I missed any thing? Please advise.
