It all started after 2 days visit in Bishnupur (trip story coming) , and we again were ready for a long drive in the mountains . I told wify to go to Kaluk and pelling in sikkim from kolkata with our son, in the month of December 2014, she was excited and we decided we will start in 17 December after my son's winter vacation & christmas starts. My mother wanted to join as she never been to sikkim before.

Day one: the day before
I bought the entire crate (containing 12 bottles) of mineral water from our locality, enough packets of food for my son, medicine (including motion sickness & my blood pressure ones too) . we started 4.30 AM in the morning , and the excitement of my son was the most. He never been to mountains before. I took my usual safe route of Durgapur express way till saktigarh, the journey was uneventful. where we had cups of tea, used the washrooms and bought few coconuts. I was expecting fog, and my vehicle does not have any fog lights. But to our surprise there were none. I was relieved

After shaktigarh we drove around 25 km till nawabhut where i left NH2 and took right state highway (sh) 7 till Bolpur via gushkara.

The new road (by pass) that takes you by the outskirts of Bolpur town (saving 3 kms and 20 mins of traffic) straight over the newly constructed flyover is real good. last time when I had passed this road , the construction work was going on and I had to waste 45 mins to go there. This road is called Bolpur-siuri road, excellent condition through the countryside of Birbhum district and connects NH 60 at Siuri, via Purandarpur. Since I am on diet I take my food in time. So, 9 AM it was and time for break fast. Mom had motion sick ness , we had to stop few times. I stopped at village eatery , where they had benches made of Bamboo. They were clean, early morning utensils were washed properly. I saw they were frying potato pakora (alur chop), my mouth started watering, Freshly cooked Ghugnee. and boiled eggs. I do not take potato. since we will be tasting all the items "Begunee" (brinjal pakora) for me :). They fished the potato out of the ghugnee for me, Begunee and Muri (puffed rice) for me and half boiled eggs as spread over the breads , which came just after. Tasted food cooked with wood and coal fire. it tasted different. Nice , good are just simple words. forgot we have to go miles. Wasted full 45 mins there.

Jadavpur- Shaktigarh - 102 Km (NH2 - two toll plaza, Dankuni and Palsit).
Shaktigarh - Nababhat - 18 Km
Nababhat to Bolpur - 55 Km
Bolpur to Siuri - 44 KM

Tilpara Barage or Dam still had water in their storage , but the road till Rampurhat is fantastic. Usually I do not drive very fast, my average speed is between 80-100. and my Bolero was just awesome. Rampurhat to Nalhati is terrible. Oranges were just coming at that time in the market. Bought few from rampurhat and we went again. The BP dhaba at More gram was a quick stop for us. we had chay (tea) there.

Siuri to More gram - 90 KM
From Moregram NH34 Started. Did not know that the toll started there.

The road of Farakka is a mess

After having lunch at Golden Park, just after Malda town and wasting no more time we headed towards Siliguri with full throttle. My G-shock showed 2.30 PM in its display. road condition improved after Malda. Before MAlda I avoided the kaliachak JAm (though it was not much) by crawling down by the side of the road passing all trucks and thanx to MAhindra. Reached DAlkhola BP petrol pump as we all are aware of for Tea break , re-fueled and off we go. we enjoyed around 45 mins there.
