fan noise in sony vaio

Avinash, if your VAIO is still covered under warranty, taking it to the service center would be the best option.

However, if the warranty has expired, a little investigation into the cause of the problem might be beneficial ( on your pocket ) before you take it for repairs. They would not be able to charge you for that oft-repeated "damage chip problem" which never was and which they never fixed.

The default Motherboard temperature at which the fans kick in are set in the BIOS. The fan speeds ( RPM/ trigger Mobo temperature ) can be set from your OS ( windows etc ) using softwares as well.

Download some hardware temperature monitoring software and check if your hardware temperatures are rising to abnormal levels.( cause of fans kicking in)

If the temperatures are pretty normal, then you can configure the fans speeds and fan trigger temperature to lower values.

Try Speedfan SpeedFan Screenshots Page

I have been using this free dell temperature/fan control application Dell Inspiron Inspiron/Latitude/Precision fan control for the last 3 years and no fan issues till now.
