First Car for newbie 43 years old guy - Guidance

Dear Experts Brothers,
I am novice 43 years old who has never driven any two-wheeler or four-wheeler ever in life.
Life has now forced me to require to drive one car for home purpose and me feeling guilty of being so incompetent that my aged parents and big family always have to opt for cabs or autos and many times we are in tough situations especially in medical urgencies and other necessary times.
So, I learned car driving locally on manual car.
Now I need to buy a car and get to a stage where I can eventually carry my parents’ family when needed in Mumbai to different parts like school; hospital visit etc.

Request sincerely your help in deciding for me which particular Brand / Model / Variant to buy exactly.

I am unable to decide even after trying from last several weeks.

Pls help in view of following requirements.

Thank you for patience and help and guidance.

  • Preferably automatic – I did local driving classes on manual Alto 800 and realized that I would be better off in automatic where I need not continuously keep on focusing on clutch and gear. So, my choice is tilted towards automatic.

  • Automatic T Type – From last several weeks; reading so many posts blogs on automatic transmission types.Thoroughly confused as there are relative pros / cons; maintenance requirements; driving peculiarities and cost factor to each transmission type and then particular models of particular brand have specific AT Type only available.Pls suggest me which AT Type of which Brand Model Variant would you recommend assuming I am a novice of 43 years who has never driven ever and technically challenged and not tech savvy to even pick things easily or understand easily.

  • Engine Type – Turbo vs Naturally aspiratedAgain, after lot of reading it appears Turbo is more costly and maintenance intensive compared to Naturally Aspirated. I may be wrong. Its my theoretical knowledge recently read. So pls suggest which is better for a layman novice like me.

  • Size of Car and myself –I would prefer smaller car as I am very scared in hitting other cars while taking turn, or judging distances from driving seat on left right side. So Smaller car will help me in avoiding such silly stupid mistakes. However, I am 130 Kg 5’11’ obese guy with large frame. So pls suggest in light of this.If SUV/MUV is the only option; then even in that smaller the better.

  • Reverse Parking Camera with sensors – I am very scared of parking with no sense of distance. So would prefer to have a car with parking reverse camera with sensors. However, if its available as accessory but good then also fine provided it does not violate warranty.

  • Dashcam front and back – Would prefer to have this as I cannot fight with people in an accident even if its other’s fault. So, proof would help. So would prefer to have a car with both front and back good quality dash cam. However, if its available as accessory but good then also fine provided it does not violate warranty.

  • Cost Factor –My budget is 12 Lakhs but given my requirements I don’t think its anyway near of my requirement. So, I will stretch budget as you guys suggest as I have no choice.

  • Petrol with CNG option –What I have understood is that CNG option company fitted is better option along with petrol. Its cost effective. So Pls suggest on these lines.

  • Availability option of purchase of maximum warranty – Would love to have option of buying that brand model which gives option to buy extended warranty for peace of mind.
  • Misc Other factors – Preferable to get Like having default power windows; good AC; etc etc. availability of parts, service centers etc

Perfect place to ask for query.

Welcome

I am 43, though I have owned form small maruti to large 200BHP cars.

Basics first:
1. Only buy Automatic. It is 100 times more safe to drive an automatic than a manual. Even if you buy an AMT, dont go for manual.

2. Keep it Simple. Dont bother too much about performance and gizmos.

3. Focus on core capability. The electrinics can be added very cheap from local shops and never void warrenty. (Parking sensor, camera, dash cam, Fog lamp set etc anything you talk about can be done in half a day from good accessary shop at few thousnds).
Dont buy a poor car with good features. Buy a good car, with less features.

4. Tyres: Can and should be replaced by taller and wider tyres right after buying car and it will cost 1000 per tyre extra generally. It gives more ground clearance and better grip. Its optional.

5. Mumbai means good ground clearance. Also traffic jam means good fuel efficiency needed.

6. 1st car: Get a pertrol. NA petrol. No great advantage in a turbo. Only more complication, a bit less reliable in case of floods or water logging etc. Less fuel efficiency.

7. Unless you drive a taxi, stay away from elecrtric or hybrid.

8. Try to buy something 4* crash rating. But not must. I will stay away from tin can wagonR etc.

9. Never trust online second hand dealers like true value, cars24 etc. Everyone is a cheat. Everyone.

You did not say budget.

My favorite cars today: Awesome value for money.
Tiago AMT.
Punch AMT.

In higher segments, Altroz DCA is great value.

Good review coming for Exter, but may not be too safe, but good enough for city runs.

Well bro, you're too young at age.
My school teacher learnt to drive car close to Retirement, as she was tired of relying on drivers.
Comparatively you're too young.

Owning the car comes with Pro's and Con's. The first point for city like Mumbai; do you have a secured car parking? your car does not gets parked on the Road, correct?
You need to assess, which is the Brand whose service center location is closest to your Home or place? That should be the priority to own the car.
Since you want Automatic, add o Jeet's list; I would recommend Nissan Magnite or Renault Kiger; the spare parts of these cars are quite affordable.
