Google is rolling out an update to Google Maps App for Android and in the new app, make available offline option would no longer be present i.e. you will now need data connection, in order to use Google Maps. Furthermore, Google Latitude is also being axed and now locations would have to be shared by Google Plus!

Now I am even happier with the decision of buying Sygic MapmyIndia maps for Rs. 199 from play store last month.

First Photoshop. Now Google! All are going the cloud or web way and going costly for non-professional users like most of us. I have also, luckily like Yogesh bought Sygic and am OK with it. I am struggling with Adobe Lightroom, whose interface is confusing me. Or am I getting old and my mind foggy?

Offline maps not axed. Google added an Easter egg to use it.
Type 'OK Maps' in the search box and search. It'll cache the area currently available in the map view.

after MMI, I never bothered about google maps any more except for some online search. I guess time to move away from free goodies :)

Yes, however it isn't yet apparent whether that will let one adjust the size of the cached area, since Google can't seem to cache maps extensively.

+1 to that, I am even doing most of the search these days on MMI maps. It is much faster, especially when the network connection is being used extensively.

I am more upset about Latitude, it was one the best ways to stay connected.

Dhull bhai never left any opportunity to amuse me, whenever I use to roam outstation ;)
