This is located on S G Road, Opp/Nr. Rajpath club.

This can be considered to be the best restaurant for Gujarati Food, all over.

The food is damn expensive but the taste is really great.

It serves more than 30 items from salad, papad, more than 5 vegetables, al/kadhi, and lots of namkeen or as we say farsan.

Rates are 175 for unlimited lunch and 225 for unlimited royal dinner

As a Ahmedabad resident, used to often get "tiffen" packed from Gordhan Thal, I say that the quality has gone down over the years. Now After eating the 3rd spoon of their
stock vege's, one feels full, may be they put something called "magajkali seeds" into it.
personally feel that price and ambience is no more worth the cost.
the german silver plates have already turned yellow, and the paint is peeling off the walls as well.
in year 2010, I have avoided it, and even the mention of geting the tiffen from that place raises a good shout of "Noooooo" from the family.

I agree with you the food quality went down. I was in ahmedabad for 3 years. I have witnessed the change in quality but initially it was the best when i tried it in 2006.

have been to this place twice or thrice, in that last 3-4 years. the ambiance is OK, food is ok. nothing great when compared to expectations from a similar "thali" joint.

To which "Thali" joint are you comparing it ? I just might find another good "Thali" joint ;)

pl allow me to digress a bit !

on similar experiences, some other thali joints I have visited (dont remember any of Ahmedabad) - Rasthal (Vadodara), Kansaar (Vadodara), Sasuma (Surat), Sasuma (Vadodara), Rajdhani (Mumbai, Vadodara), Express Inn (Ghodbunder, Thane), many years back - Shalimar (Bharuch). Though "Vintage Village" at Ahmedabad doesnt exactly account for this thread, you can surely visit for the traditional Rajasthani galore and vintage car museum of Shri Pranal Bhogilal.

btw, one of the best experience was recently during my trip to Saurashtra - ChappanBhog Restaurant, Dwarka, located within Hotel Goverdhan Green.

AFAIK the best thali in Ahmedabad is offered at Agashiye restaurant at House of MG, Nr. Relief Road but then its in a different league and so are their prices ;) Apart from it, rest of the thali joints aren't as good as Gordhan Thal. I've been to most of thali joints in Ahmedabad but haven't found any to be as good as Gordhan Thal.
