AWESOME PLACE, It was...where I stayed...

Mr. Kayum Lasu
Lasu Guest House
Yurtung, Leh
01982-252478

Its my College friend's residence and now the family operates a Guest House on their First Floor... Peaceful, serene and Scenic environments... its located in Yourtung
Water - Power - Food - Market - no problem!
Its just a 2 min walk to Shanti Stupa Base and a beautiful stream runs nearby...
Market is just 8-10 min walk through Shortcuts made of narrow streets otherwise it takes 20 min via the Shanti Stupa Road...

Just Awesome!
Some interesting trivia about my friend's family...
His mom 'Aunty Julie' cooks authentic Ladakhi food... veg or non-veg!
His Grandpa, currently over 90, was a Trader in 1920s and has a vast experience of trekking the entire Tibetan Plateau from Kashmir to China.... He has done the entire parikrama of Pangong Tso thrice on FOOT!
His Uncle, Shafi Lasu, is the elected Counsellor of Yurtung seat...

It is run in partnership with their French Friend, who teaches Skiing in French Alps for 8 months and comes to Leh for 4 months :)
Hi! We are planning a trip in July for the confluence. How many people can your friends place accomodate...

Hey all,
I am looking for a guest house in leh as well. The thing is, we dont want to walk far from the points of interest. At the same time we do not want to compromise on the view. Budget is a max of Rs500 per head. Actually, the lower the better! There are so many guest houses listed here. Could someone please help me in suggesting a place or 2 which are nice. I can make do without a restaurant (worst case!). Hot water is a must. TV, well I am not going there to watch tele, so thats ok. Parking is no concern cause we wont have vehicles there. Perhaps a place which has friendly guests as well because we may need company to go away from Leh to Daskit/Pangong in a bigger group to keep costs down! Thus keeping all this in mind, which place do you guys suggest.

@ Debarchan27: I am going for the Confluence as well! Got me early yak tickets already! Hope to see you there. I am leaving for Leh from Manali on the 12th. Hope to see you there!

Accomodation is available almost everywhere in Ladakh. Some places offer Hotels, others offer Guest houses whereas in remote places you might have to do with Home stays!
I am very much interested in home stays in Leh. How do I go about finding one for myself though? I intend to stay in Leh for about 3 months starting April/May 2011. I figured home stay is the most economic way to go. Has anyone done this for long term? Any pointers will be appreciated.

Way to go
Kidar Guest House
Bh. Hotel Mandala,
Lower Tukcha, Fort Road,
Leh
01982 - 252046 / 09419179029
We had occasion to stay at the Kidar Guest House during the second week of June this year. We made our choice based on reviews here: Kidar Guest House (Leh, India) - Hotel Reviews - TripAdvisor.

We rate the guest house as EXCELLENT or 10/10 in our ratings based on the quality of rooms, the ambience, the hospitality shown by the owners Mr & Mrs Ongchuk, their son Jigmet as well as daughter, and the two helping hands, Anshul and Vikas(?). Jigmet also works as ground staff of Jet Airways at Leh Airport, and if you arrive by Jet he just might manage an aircraft-door-to-guest-house-door service! :D

We were charged @Rs.700 per double room and Rs.1000 per 4-bedded room, both of which were well furnished, with clean toilets and linen.

Running hot water supply is available in the morning hours only, but hot water in buckets is arranged any time it is asked for. Meals are on prior order (at least 3-4 hours in advance), and the food is home-cooked and served in traditional Ladakhi style dining rooms.

Space is available for parking only 2-3 cars and a few bikes. The main market is at 10 minutes' walking distance, though for an unacclimatized person even those 10 minutes may prove to be fairly strenuous.

I will suggest that Horpo Guest HOUSE, Chuby road with 8 double room is also excellent pick as it is newly constructed and Hospitality of the owner Mr Tsetan (09906975196, an air india employee) is unforgettable. And one must try here for excellent location, excellant food (even jain veg food is yummy).
