That i am sure. Kasauli turn comes before Dharampur. I am not sure about the turn to Sanawar, never took that route.

Let me rephrase then, From Kalka to Shimla
left Kasauli turn comes first ( I am sure)
Then all the restaurants
and then the turn to Sanawar ( the Lawrence school)

Haven't tried Modern.
Heard from a friend that there is a nameless dhaba selling meat-rice and rajma-rice somewhere a little before Giani's when coming from Shimla. Finger licking good meat curry.

Just after crossing Dharampur, there is a left T-junction (left goes to Kasauli and straight to Shimla). Giani's is around half a km from that junction if we move towards Shimla.

Actually in a way Vikas is right,while going from Kalka,one can head straight to kasauli via Parwanoo by taking a left else can keep going towards Shimla and take a left from Dharampur(just before Giani Dhaba).
So these are two different routes,the latter being the long one.

Just rode to Kasauli this weekend,weather was awesome.
While going we took the first left from Parwanoo & while returning we came via Dharampur & had food at Giani.

One item on their menu still rocks like ever "Lemon Chicken"
was done beautifully,rest was just crap.
So lemon Chicken at Giani comes highly recommended

Giani Dhabha on that route actually became famous because of its "Lemon Chicken". and cheaper non veg food (gone are the days). Lemon Chicken had also been featured on a show called 'secret kitchen'. I made hype of this recipe and stopped at Gianis with me wife and experience was not all that good in my last visit (Nov 2010) I have had lemon chicken there a few times but perhaps it was the last time.

Modern Dhaba, just ahead to Gianis is better bet. Its vegetarion though.

Last one I had was last month & was done quite well.
Infact we were quite a group & we unanimously liked the preparation.
Though their chicken masala was pathetic.
