I wont recommend shekhar with family
Its next to CCD 4 kilometers behind dharmpur
We stopped at Gyani-Da- Dhaba on 3 June 2013, 7.30 in evening, while coming down to Chandhigarh from Shimla.
Washrooms were there but were locked, with nobody to bother, We had to use facilities at some other Resturant. We had come back to this place because as fast food joints do not serve tea.
Service was pathetic and time to cook Bread Pakora was too high.
Chai and Bread Pakora were good, but we dreaded to order another piece as cook would take another 30 minutes.
There used to a time when this unit was small and family run kind.
They will serve tandoori stuffed Prantha in morning and Chicken, Mutton preprations lunch onward. It was must stop for all heading for Shimla in morning for Breakfast. Preprations were simple but good to eat.
Then came Sukhram Telecom Scam and this place had STD booths and chocolate vend by that time. Patrons increased many fold, with good food, facilities and STD to call back home under same roof. He was still the only one there.
Now I do not know about old couple are still working, their Son seems to run the show. They have grown up like any thing and close the show by 9pm.
Service is bad bad and bad , food is just average.
Current generation is encashing the Brand image their parents developed.
Who cares as turnover is huge and IT department is frequent visitor.
No more a must stop for us only if there is no other option and time is right.

I am surprised as we have never had any problems with service at Gyani's. the food is not the same like before, but if one sticks to just basics like tandoori stuffed paranthas, egg Bhurji, rajma chawal and u r ok. yes toilets are in bad shape. so for good tea and pakoras etc and a very clean toilet i would suggest Basil and Bean dhaba type at the next bend after Gyani's when one is heading to Chandigarh from Gyaani's. B &B's toilets are good. also tolets at hot millions is clean.
Which one. Is the name 'Modern.'
Giani, do have off the shelf Wines and Bicardi Breezers.
I do not know if you can open it and drink the bottle there.
