Hanle, Umling La & Chushul now off limits for civilians?

With the DC busy with LAHDC meetings, no decision has been taken yet on Hanle. Permit for Hanle remains temporarily suspended.
I went through the comments on your post on FB.
It is such a shame that a few have no regard for the authority and want to be the first and conquer ](*,)
Conquer what, that too on big bikes which others made with their hands and hard work.

I seriously hope Leh administration and the armed forces don't punish all for the wrongdoings of a few.
Though there should be strict punishment for those who don't follow the permit instructions.

Hi

Since it is very near to Chinese border and may be because of some strategic importance Hanle may remain off the limit for some time.

Regards
Not really. Hanle is actually further from LAC than some of the other places open for tourists. However, most take the Chushul route to it, which passes near the LAC and from Hanle it is possible to go to Fukche, which is also quite near LAC and the road leading to it is also quite to LAC.

Umling La too is on the under construction new road to Fukche, hence it is important and off-limits as of now. Technically civilians can even go to Fukche, but the permit for it is rarely issued.

I am completely agree with that. Though big bike or not, it does take a lot of effort to do a high altitude pass.

Hi
Just tried to register on Leh administration web site. Above routes are accessible. Chushul,Hanle is not there in the list. Or it was not there earlier also. Came to know from unconfirmed sources that for visiting TSO MORIRI this year, via Upashi is the only way. Via Chushul it won't be allowed.
Regards

Chushul and Hanle have never been the normal options. You have to write them separately and special stamps for these places. Online permit system is only for travel agents, not for individuals.

Lost and found in Ladakh!
This issue is not really an eye-opener. This same issue happened with Marsmik-la when a few people carried there action cams with them and left other big cameras to fool the authorities. As a solution, ITBP does not allow anyone to go ahead of phobrang checkpost anymore.

Such is the affect of social networking that everyone wants that one moment of fame and get into the #trending category for once in there life and be a well known entity who "conquered" something.

@Yogesh Sarkar bro.. Still no good news with Hanle - Chusul route? Will it be opened this year?

I have been contacted by some vendors for leh-ladakh trip.. They are having a route of (Tsokar-Loma bridge-Hanle-Uming La-Hanle-Chusul-Pangong) in their iternary. I really don't know how they included this route, if no permits are issued currently.

Are they fooling the travellers and starting booking? Confused Rider :p

No updates yet for Hanle.

If someone is selling you a package for a place, travel to which isn’t allowed by the Army and Ministry of Home Affairs and is technically a crime under Indian Laws, then I guess it speaks volumes about their conduct and behavior and I don’t need to add anything more to it.

I think they may have these route's to attract traveller's and sell the package. Once everything confirmed, ride en-route they will change the plan quoting restrictiiouon or permission issue's. Cheap behaviour.... if i get a call again, i will definitely screw that agent.

Sad reality is, these days everyone is a travel agent or a ride organizer. Most of these people have zero experience of managing groups nor do they have the expertise or the financials to handle emergencies. I had written about this a while back, Why you don’t need a tour company for Ladakh.
