Friends, we, I and my wife are planning to visit Goa in the first week of October. For me, this will be the first time in Goa and so we need your help. Can you please suggest me what is the best area in Goa to stay for a one week vacation? And can you suggest me some budget hotels in that location best for staying? I have a budget of max 1k for a night for the lodging.

I would suggest u stay half of ure trip in north goa and the other half in south goa. its best this way as that way u get to explore all best parts of goa without spending half ure time riding accross from north half to south. if u can push back ure trip to last week of september then u will get great discounts in hotels as off season is basically till 30th sept. but maybe u cus still find reasonable accomodation in oct. but 1k a night is quite doable. have fun...goa is super..

I remember reading a Travelogue by lucifier that he stayed at a place which cost 350 bucks a night. Not a hotel but a guest house of sorts. No food no ac. But totally worth it if you wanna spend all your time out eat out and come to your night stay place just for sleeping. Also this place was just 300 or 400 meters from the beach.
Im on the phone now so will try to post the link when i have an access to a desktop

Goa is divided into two parts
1.North Goa
2:South Goa

I last visited goa in december 2011 at new years time so i stayed near colva beach but you know the rates were pretty high at that time. But as you are going in off season i dont think you will be having problem with the rates now. There are lots of hotels to stay and you can find good hotels for food.In 1k per day i think your should find a good hotel in that area.

I would suggest you to book your stay from Airbnb. They have some amazing budgeted apartments.
However, if you want to know more about Goa... then let me tell you Goa is divided into North & South Goa. And it depends on you which place you want to visit.
South Goa is meant for party and shopping where as North Goa is to relax and unwind.
