Hero set to launch own bike sans Honda tech in 2013

2013? That's just months away! Wonder how they are going to develop an engine from scratch in such short notice. HMC has been ambitious,but rubbish at the same time.

Doesn’t take much time to develop a bike, if you outsource R&D to companies like AVL. Not sure if Hero is going to follow that route, but it is something which is done world over, including here in India.

They have a CORE R&D team working on developing biks(s) by themselves for almost a decade now.

^Do those brands have engines for Indian market?

AFAIK,they make large capacity engines.

Developing might happen quickly,testing it n putting it on road takes longer.It took years for TVS to develop victor and put that on road,all of that before the jv broke off,from that perspective,I don't see HMC making any effort.

Current crop of RE engines are developed by AVL and if I remember it correctly, TVS and Mahindra are using them as well (not 100% sure though). And it isn't like Hero has just started working on this, they have been planning for it from the time they separated from Honda and in all likelihood, even before that as well.
