Sudipto - I can suggest for Somnath as I was in Delhi-Gir-Diu roadtrip last month during Dussehra holidays.
We were on our way to Diu from Gir & found that all hotels were either packed in Gir & whomsoever we contacted on phone in the tripadvisor list for Diu acted pricey, then a Gentleman suggested us to take the night halt at Somnath & it was the right decision with family.
1. On the highway while entering Somnath, one can see Hotel sunplaza on your left. Deluxe AC room @ Rs1800/- was good for me but as soon as I said yes for the room without seeing, the guy at the reception asked other family already standing at the reception that he's going to give me the room if they are not ready to take it, thus they immediately confirmed. Then he showed me another room but now @ Rs2800/- so I took some time to stroll on the contrary.
2. Fern is the standard hotel with 5 star facilities - it's right opposite to the big top signboard of Somnath entry. I did not enquire in it but there were a lot of hotels behind Fern so I decided to check them !
3. Lord's is another 4 star property opposite Fern on the right side of the road - I enquired over the phone ~3800 for an AC room but he asked extra for my child so I did not pursue it further.
4. Amber - hotels & restaurant on the right corner side ~1400 for an AC room but the last room just got booked before me.
5. Hotel Shubh suvidha & Sukh sagar - last hotels on the left side of the highway ~ 1500 for an AC room but were packed when I approached.
6. Hotel sitara ~2000 for an AC 3-bed room - was available but the hotel was shabby & so small that I did not seem appropriate for my family to take there.
7. Tulsi was good ~1400 for an AC but the last room just got sold before me.
8. Shree hari - ok hotel@ Rs 1300 for an AC & Rs500 for Non A/c.
9. Another hotel on the left side of the road ( name included Krishna ) - Big AC room @1400/- but it was all empty, thus I did not take my chance with family to stay.
All these hotels within half to one kilometer of the highway starting at Somnath. It's Good to see so much families travelling thus giving the safe & warmth feeling even at night time.
