How to click good Portraits

Where is the remote?
For your views:

I know the flash is too hard, should have diffused it..

Parry I will not discuss flash as you have mentioned yourself. So in nutshell :-

I like :-

1. The non-central positioning , the negative space is definitely adding to aesthetics.
2. Sharp focus and a pleasant expression.

I don't like :

The red tee shirt and some areas of the cheeks, forehead & neck lacks details.

One very important issue is posture. This posture is ideal for feminine subjects. Looking slightly over the shoulder brings out curves and shadows nicely. With this gut a more frontal posture could suit better IMO. Read this if inclined https://expertphotography.com/photographers-guide-posing-men-portraits/

Nice click Anupam. Fairly sharp. I cant find anything wrong with picture, except cluttered background.

Vikas bhai all experts are sleeping. Till they wake up here is my version.
But 1/10 shutter speed? Not really fast enough for portraits...
Cropped and temp/color adjustment in LR

Hi Anupam,
I guess this is your name. I saw Ankur addressed you by that name.
This picture is a nice extreme close-up. The back ground, even though blurred distracts little, maybe due to strong colors. The eyes starts to wonder at the bg trying to figure out what it is but then again settles on the portrait because it is quite strong.
This means your picture in its entirety works.
That's my interpretation.

Hi Vikas,
I like this picture because the girl is attractive. The subject matters the most. Now for critics.....
The high lights on the nose is not so much distracting but the back ground is. I can easily see it was shot in a bedroom and also there is some bright white object right behind her head.
The light I guess is from the left of the girl at 45 deg. It has cast strong shadows under her chin but the face is lit fine. You could improve this picture by adding a fill light from the right of the subject. It could be a white foam board that will bounce the light. The fill light will make the light softer making the portrait more pleasing.
Straight out of camera is like saying take this car which is out of the assembly line without polish, cleaning and any final touch up. Processing is an important part in photography. This picture can be improved a lot with processing.

Thank you for your words Henry, My laptop got crashed thus I could not do editing part. Secondly I want to get the actual feedback w/o editing thus posted this image w/o any alteration. I have started clicking recently on manual mode, thus I am in learning phase, Will post more and more to know more about portraits.

Another thing is I dont know how to use LR or PS, Will install as soon as I get my system.

Ankur - Thanks for the updated one.
