For Delhi and North India guys, I guess AAUI would be helpful
For anything to be done through AAUI, you first have to become a member!
Pay one year membership fee, which is Rs. 600/- or so./

And of course you do not need a Visa to any country for getting the IDP.

I have not had an IDP made in more than a decade!

Got it done many times in the past - simply fill up a form, give the Indian Driving license, give a few photos, pay a fee and an IDP valid for one year used to be given.

I'll find out the new requirements and let you know, from the AAUI. But that'll be on a weekday, not today. :)

So what's the problem with that? In any case we will be applying for IDP once we get the visa formalities completed.

It helps to know which part of the world one will be driving in. In certain countries, laws are more forgiving than others. You can get an International Driving Permit which is no more than an official translation for your original license into eight diferent languages. It must be accompanied by the original license. This 'permit' is 'valid' for 5, 10 or 15 years depending on the amount of fee you pay. Personally, I feel this particular permit thing is a ripoff, but if it works, why not use it.

In my experience, this permit works fine in Latin America, Africa, and Eastern Europe. I can not vouch for US or EU.

P.S. You do not need a valid visa to acquire this permit, just a valid passport.

Hi All,

Read this thread.. Just want to know that I am planning to go to Mauritius in September and planning to hire a self driven car there.

1. So does my Indian Driving License will work there.
2. If not then what is other easiest options?
3. If preparing International License is only solution then I am in Bangalore now a days, is it possible to create it from here and what will be the formalities when my License is from Delhi RTO.

Please Guide.
