Dear All ,

I have read the whole thread. Being a Finance professional and enthusiast for becoming an entrepreneur like all of you i have same queries as you have. Would like to refresh the queries if some intelligent person can answer this.

1. The basic and other important legal and binding formalities required for starting a roadside stall/cart?
2. From where to get the stall and the designing for it.
3. I want to start in Noida, Delhi, Gurgaon and . So do i need to take permissions in 3 different states? If yes from where and what kind of permissions.

I can pump in money. Looking for a partner as well. Planning for making this big by later taking this to the upcoming markets in India slowly and gradualy. If anyone of you peers want to have a collaboration we can surely do well.

Looking forward to hear from you.

Your dream is big

First solve legal problems.
Then make it in a franchisee way.
Starting from a street cart to developing it,
is a regular process.
First hand knowledge is must.
First focus on items

Item is not clear to me.
Then I can suggest.
Follow any ice-cream company's business plan
It is almost same.

Beware of Hidden Expenses

Local Police Station and Beat Constable getting their Weekly cut and Free Carry Away Packs
Health Inspector showing his Pockets
Hopefully no Local Dada

All these exist besides all Legal Permissions

1. The basic and other important legal and binding formalities required for starting a roadside stall/cart?

Some vending / standing/ business Licence from local Muncipality Office.
Even for where you will prepare products to sell.

2. From where to get the stall and the designing for it.
This depends on product & its need.
Many designing agencies / facilitator for Carts can design it.
But cart designing is best done at wood workers / Steel fabricators.
For Graphic Designing any printing / Designing expert can design it graphically.

3. A. I want to start in Noida, Delhi, Gurgaon and So do i need to take permissions in 3 different states? If yes from where and what kind of permissions.
Yes. Go to all local city Muncipality offices and ask for procedure about your requirements.
Teh Bazari is to stand on road.
This is first need.
Food Licence depends on nature of business.
Keep Dust Bin for Sanitary issues. But No licence required. It can be managed after permission is granted.

4. I can pump in money. Looking for a partner as well. Planning for making this big by later taking this to the upcoming markets in India slowly and gradualy. If anyone of you peers want to have a collaboration we can surely do well.
Partners can be find on olx or at many social media platforms.
Meetup also has some business seekers & franchisee model seekers / facilitators.
Try to see partners there also.

Normally money is not a much problem for a business.
Investors are always available for person with right products cashing it regularly.
Some basic problems are items, proper channelising of money and handling of labour.
All other issues can be handled with jacks & money.

Dear Aamir,

One way to know how to start such a business is by talking to an existing business owner who already is doing the same thing. In your case, this is a momo/samosa seller. First, find a momo/samosa seller where you personally like the food/setup and ask him/her the details. The details of finding a chef/cook can also be got from the same person.
You would need a license to sell street food from FSSAI. Check their website for additional details.

The biggest problem is one of trust. I plan to be a passive investor - meaning all the daily logistics of buying food, cooking, plates, cleaning, money, opening and closing of restaurant, etc needs to be done by 1 person, who is not me and is available full time at the stall. How can I ensure that I am not cheated - for eg, If I pay him 5000 rupees to buy food ingredients for say 200 momos, at the end of the day if he has collected money for 100 momos but the food ingredients for 150 momos has been used and 50 momos quantity food ingredients is left. How can such situations be dealt with?

You would have to control the Cash.
During customers hours, you have to be at the counter to take cash and issue coupons for collection of ready food items by the customers. No way you can trust ANY Employee for this task. Give him money to buy daily needs and let him be happy with little saving out of that. Do not be fussy on his purchases.
Trade Secret : The Bread that is available at all shops is delivered to them by suppliers / manufacturers on the assurance that they would take back unsold breads before its expiry date. This bread is resold to Food Stalls at discounted price, who use it the same very day. No Loss to any party.

@Raj ROVER

Hi Sir, I am from Mangalore and I visit Goa quite often for holidays. I feel amazed by your support you lend to everyone here and I too wanna ask you a few details about a small roadside eatery business that I wanna start in Goa. I work in Bangalore to support my family, but it's high time that I do something more than usual than working in front of laptops. With limited finance in hand, but a motivated mind and heart, I sincerely ask for your help as to what exactly is needed to start a small roadside eatery in Goa? As I said, with limited finance in hand, I wanna know the govt policies to set up something that's movable in nature on a street in Goa.

Your inputs are sincerely awaited :)

Unfeigned Regards,

That is a right decision to make. Before starting your own business it is always a good idea to learn from those people who already achieved success in this field. The one thing i've learnt lately - always use modern technology in your own benefit. In this case microsoft teams phone number was my life saver when it came to the communication with the customers.
