International Driving Licence for Indians (IDL)

Dear all,

Have one query.

Can I get an IDL from Bangalore/Karnataka RTO, if my valid DL is from Delhi? I have Delhi's address on both Passport and Driving License.

You should have a valid Indian driving license, which should be min. one year old
A valid passport (with min. 6 months left before expiry date)
Valid Visa for the country you are travelling
Medical Form 1A (can be obtained from authority itself)
5 Passport photographs
Fees (500/-)

Please ensure you reach earliest in the morning, as IDP are only issued in first half i.e. before 1PM.

Also the maximum validity of IDP is 1yr, subjected to validity of your Visa/Duration of stay.

Come as you are!
Depends on the country you are travelling to. E.g. here in Singapore, you can drive for a year with your Indian licence, if it is in English.

I have driven and even rented Cars in US producing Indian Driving Licence only although I always carry valid IDL too.

However, IDL may be required to be produced in case of any Traffic violation or as demanded by authorities.

Can someone confirm if IDL is country specific?
Lets suppose i have Indian License (in English). I show my visa for Singapore and get IDL. Now I want to go and drive in London. Do i need to get different IDL?
