Is it worth hiring Zoomcar?

Hi,

I'm planning to family trip to Ooty by first week of May (Me, my wife, my 10yrs old kid). I'm flying from Mumbai to Coimbatore and take a Zoomcar then reach Ooty. Duration of my stay is 3 nights at Ooty and a day in Coimbatore and fly back. So I was exploring the option of Zoomcar. I want to hire Zoomcar, I can drive where ever whenever during my stay without having anyone with us all the time.

But I'm not able figure out whether it is wise to hire a Zoomcar or hiring a normal cab will be better. Any suggestion will be appreciated.

If you like to drive, Zoomcar or any other car rental would be a good option.

However, a taxi would be cheaper in majority of the cases and the driver will know the routes and you won’t have to worry about driving.

So at the end of the day, it really comes down to personal preference and whether or not you wish to pay the premium for the freedom of driving the vehicle yourself.

Thank you Yogesh. You are right, a taxi driver would know better routes. But also thinking whether there will be any random drive destinations in Ooty at all. If not then hiring any self drive car will be worthless.

That is something only the locals and frequent visitors to Ooty can tell. Better start a thread in the itinerary section for it.

Having said that, there are always random driving destinations everywhere if you have exploration in mind.

Thanks Yogesh, for showing me a right direction.

Finally I booked Myles. Myles seemed to be more customer friendly than Zoomcar. Got Rs 850/- discount on my first booking without security deposit. All set :)

Myles rakes their sweet time in returning security deposit.
I hope they returns the security deposit. 8-[ I'm lucky though, as they didn't ask me for security deposit. They have started a scheme where the customer doesn't have to pay the refundable security deposit.

How was your overall experience with Myles? Good, Bad, or Worst?

Somewhere in the middle. A lot depends on their individual contractor since they don’t directly manage the offline part. So make sure you check the vehicle thoroughly and make a video of all the dents, before taking delivery.

Vehicles are mostly alright, but at times they can be a bit off. One of the Myles car we got had a lot of ants in it, thanks to it being parked at the wrong spot by the contractor.

Be ready to face crowd crowd anywhere and everywhere in May 17 due to summer vacation. The places to see around are pretty easy in Ooty and can simply follow tripadvisor for the same. You can drive to some less crowded places like Kothagiri, Kodanadu where the usual traffic may not be present. Do remember two things if at Ooty:
1. Take a 25 Liter water can from Coimbatore itself and load it in your car. There is acute water scarcity in the hill and the so called 1 liter mineral water bottles available at Ooty are simply unreliable.
2. Prior hotel booking is absolute must before entering Ooty as most accomodation will be sold out during May 17.
