Who said this is a sports-tourer?
many of the people are considering KTM 390 to tour on it or where exactly one would be utilizing it's raw potential/ top speed? it remain track oriented or street bike, but in considering it's high tech specs many of the enthusiastic s would love to take a spin of it either on track (indian streets/ local roads are too much crowded?) or highway, if it is on track 11 L is more than sufficient but as far as on highway touring concern it is not what I believe.

I can understand that the tank range will be pretty low, around 180-200kms but then it shouldn't be a matter of concern till the time a person is planning to take it to Leh, Sach Pass or may be Spiti. It obviously isn't something which people will enjoy most on the long straight highways of Rajasthan. This is a kind of motorcycle which will be at its best on twisty roads of mountains and mild off roads.

Indeed it's a best available VFM machine in india below 500 segment, hope KTM understand indian market in every possible aspect (not only sports/track category) and launch their 690 enduro or similar, considering gradually growing toruer category...

If people feel the tank is puny, spend some money and get the bigger tank from KTM international. And the Dukes launched in India are orange blooded street bikes, can tour on it of course but its not purpose built for it.

Yep, we are the best bikers in the planet! We probaly get the most out of our bikes given what we get from the manufacturers here.

I had test ridden the Duke 390 on the first day it was available in the Connaught Place showroom in Delhi for TD. Also, some of us were lucky to get our test rides without a pillion. My observations:

  • Duke 200 is better built than the 390, period. The cost cutting shows pretty glaringly if you are in the mood to observe.
  • The gearing is taller and it doesnt accelerate frenetically as you would think. We couldnt get out of first two gears in CP traffic so will reserve judgement for another day.
  • The Metzellers are lovely, didnt spin up when we accelerated hard out of turns on cold tires. But costing at 12K rupees/tire and lasting for only 8-K kms, thats an expensive ownership cost to have!
  • The bike seriously heats up, even at 35 degress of ambient temparature. KTM has to fix it else you cant ride this thing in India without painting the road green with coolant  And this could be the main reason they have held up the deliveries and reviews. The media and corporations have been in bed together for decades now, dont expect any mag or mainstream website to break this nexus ;)

Cheers,
Shamik
