KTM 390 Duke details confirmed

Thanks Shamik. But could please elaborate on why exactly you felt 200 is better built than 390. Almost everyone now know that they both are on the same platform so different parts would mean higher cost and at least Bajaj won't let that happen. Did you take any pics? Where all did you feel that Bajaj and KTM have tried to cut corners?

Thank you Shamik for your observations, you are a lucky few who have actually ridden the 390 on the road. last week I went to the Pro-biking showroom on Park street here in Kolkata. The test ride they offered me was a joke. I got on the bike put it in 1st, went to pull off and stalled  then tried to start it again and it just wouldn't start. The showroom guys came along and after running the battery down considerably finally got it to start. Second attempt was better got the bike off the line smoothly, accelerated, shifted to second and stopped........................... the road had finished. They were giving test rides on the showroom parking space which is about 60ft long. There were another 4 or 5 guys waiting to sit on the bike (test ride) and the first 3 of them all stalled the bike the first time round which made me feel much better. And yes after each stall the bike just didn't want to start. Maybe this could be a problem which KTM is trying to resolve thus delaying deliveries, or it could be just a problem with the demo bike.
I have ridden my friends 200 and loved the power and handling, the first 4stroke I have ridden that felt like a 2stroke! The only reason I didn't buy the 200 was because of the short gearing.
The 390 with its taller gears and increased power ticks all the boxes for me, yes they could have done something about the exhaust pipe and the wires etc but at 2 lacs...and considering the amount of dosh I spent making my RX5speed go quicker, the extra 50K for the 390 made sense.
I booked the bike and was given a middle of August delivery time.

I had test ridden the Duke 390 on the first day it was available in the Connaught Place showroom in Delhi for TD. Also, some of us were lucky to get our test rides without a pillion. My observations:

So it doesn't really scare you when you ride it sane. hmm..

with regards to the quality...you are talking about the panels or the wiring and stuff? i thought they would be pretty much similar. i love the 200 for the details in that machine.

the 200 also heats up Or atleast one feels the heat. This one will be worse i guess. The fairing helps in such scenarios.i seriously doubt if they will be able to do something. The radiator on the 200 is a bigger one? maybe they ought to make it Huge:grin:

^^ it's just 10.2 L tank.

thankfully there is a alternative .. One can buy a bigger fuel tank from KTM global ...
Does the bigger fuel tank is available for D390 in KTM. If so that lease the share the link.. I am interested and I am not able to find anything such stuff..

One point, the D390 comes with an in built decompressor, its like a Bullet but its kindya automatic. So if you stall the bike, it wont re-start immediately and would require a fair bit of cranking. I wont like to stall this when I am in a watercrossing with strong currents and freezing water ;)

Dheeraj: All of us hit the limiter in the first 2 gears and we were disappointed forget scared. We felt it was marginally quicker than the Ceeber 250.

P.S. I dont trust any mags and main stream websites, they have been bought over by the manufacturers long back.

This was supposed to do a 5 sec ton - significantly faster than ceeber (~8 secs I would guess). It is a disappointment if the acceleration figures have been hyped by KTM.

i need to TD it now..wanna see if the little Ninja still rules :). i'm surprised though..forget the mags but some folks ( read that as our ex bcmt member) who had the bike for some massive testing were pretty impressed. I was hoping for some huge difference cause the 200 is so much fun.

who all did the test? @Vaibhav ..you were part of the TD test team too?

I just hope they hadn't restricted the TD vehicle. Why do I think so? If Duke 200 with 25bhp can be a riot, 43bhp of Duke 390 in a marginally heavy frame should wreck the neck despite of taller gear ratios. I think we'd have to wait for some one to buy it.
