THE LONE RIDER
If thinking for a Doberman, keep ready the ear plugs....
I would say that for a GSD.

we had a Dobermann along with GSD until last year(Dobermann\Bruno,just went away after 14 years:().

If i have to compare them,my vote goes to dobermann.

GSD any day over other breeds. I own one GSD

Advantages of GSD :

Very very loyal.
Can sense trouble i.e. if person approaching is good or bad.
Very playful.
Obedient.
Go for single coat only.
When young feed them frequently
Do not give frequent bath with shampoo or soap as theytend to develop dry skin.
Clean ears once a month else they tend to get very dirty.
Very sober and protective for the kids around.
Best breed if you have kids.

If buying a GSD,get a short coat breed.
I have one of long coat, and its really difficult for them to bear the heat.
Thanks for suggestion, that's some news. Never knew you can get a short coat GSD too.

I wonder if this condition can be fulfilled!
Well then lets say which one would do it the least :D

Also, please give due consideration to what diet you are going to serve the poor thing!
Dogs ideally must have non-veg diet.
I've seen enough dogs living comfortably on Veg diets :)

Voted for Doberman. I agree that Labs are a bit too friendly, even with strangers. GSDs are very prone to diseases and infection and aren't suitable for hot and humid climate, no matter how much people love them.

Boxers can be a good option too. Stay away from St. Bernard and Great Dane.
Thanks for suggestion.

Have heard Doberman to be a very friendly pet, infact have been asked specifically not to have this as a pet.
Well that's some news.. to me Doberman appears to be a very ferocious dog :D

Only GSD can fulfill your requirements.

a few suggestions from my side...

if adapting a GSD little pup, feed 5-6 times a day in little quantity.

make him habitual to accept different type of foods including daal & subjis from start(6mth)

allow the kids to play with them right from the beginning.

at their young age GSDs should actually kept on two times feeds a day to keep them alert, more time feeds means more lazy watch dog.

if you want your dog to only bark at visitors keep him un-tied & do the reverse if you want you dog to bite visitors tie him in the corner of the yard.

& please dont use Buy a dog, but use Adopt a dog, the most faithful companion of man on the earth.

I've heard that GSD's are prone to ear infection due to its upright design. Can the GSD owners please shed some light on the matter.

Where can I find them? Is there some NGO or something that keeps dogs for adoption?

No! I've 7 yr old Browny, no problem at all.
Its not the design but the wounds caused by their own nails or due to other dog bite.
but when wounded, treat it immediately otherwise it is very difficult (almost impossible) to recover.

Hehe, Prasham, Nitu meant that the word 'buy' does not seem polite, you should use the word 'adopt'!
Euphemisms!
I'll not kill you, I'll neutralize you, hehe! :p Or 'compromise', even better!
