Interesting!!! But sir why did you let him go!!! Even that GSD wasn't yours, you could keep him till the tie his owner comes and if no one shows up then its yours.
Yaar biwi se jagda mehanga paad sakta hai ;)
Actually from plight of it, it seemed that it was straying around since atleast 3-4 days. I haven't seen a weaker GSD. Again when I discussed about it with my neighbours they too said that it had been straying in the area since last 2-3 days. Moreover the town I live in isn't very big and hence finding a lost dog wouldn't be a huge deal. So chances of someone coming to claim it were slim.

By the way my vote goes to Labrador. Have more than a dozen in last 5 yrs.
WOW a dozen labs!!! Where do you keep them? I like Labs too but the problem is that it doesn't suit my requirements. I need a watch dog and not a family pet :)

Normally what happens is if isomeone adopts a dog and later get to know that its not pure in breed they let him go!!! This might be the case with the same GSD.

I had 10 at one time. At my house in sonipat is where I keep them.

But atleast they'll shout enough to wake you up, exactly what they are meant to do.
They (pomerians/spitz) are not very children friendly also they are very jealous/possessive & may even harm children to seek attention.

As for Doberman I can again confirm Amit's & Anup Ji word, that they are Dumbest of the lot, had tamed couple of them and know atleast a dozen examples where they have furiously attacked their owners only. Damn care what wiki says, experience speaks for itself.

^+1.

I also dont care for what wiki says - have had one so know the characteristics.

The Doberman Pinscher has ranked amongst the most intelligent of dog breeds in experimental studies and expert evaluations. For instance, Psychologist Stanley Coren ranks the Doberman as the 5th most intelligent dog in the category of obedience command training based on the selective surveys he performed of some trainers as documented in his book The Intelligence of Dogs.

Ok so I am left virtually with GSD & Lab only. What else can I consider?
