Hi Yogeshji

I need your advice for my proposed trip to Ladakh during Aug/Sep 2018 and the tentative schedule is

Day From To KM

1 Coimbatore Kolhapur 980
2 Kolhapur Ahmedabad 890
3 Ahmedabad Jaisalmer 540
4 Jaisalmer
5 Jaisalmer Ferozepur 680 Husainiwala
6 Ferozepur Chamba 330
7 Chamba Killar 160 Sach pass
8 Killar Kishtwar 120 Cliffhangar
9 Kishtwar Sonamarg 290 Sinthan Pass
10 Sonamarg Rangdum 250
11 Rangdum Kargil 330 Padum
12 Kargil Leh 220
13 Leh Permits
14 Leh Turtuk 200
15 Turtuk Pangong TSO 250 via Shyok
16 P TSO Hanle 240
17 Hanle Keylong 500 Tso Moriri / Kar
18 Keylong Kaza 190
19 Kaza
20 Kaza Kalpa 210
21 Kalpa Ambala 400
Ambala Coimbatore 3200 4 to 5 days

I have already been to Ladakh during 2009 (ALTO) and 2016 (Scorpio). I would like to know whether P TSO- Hanle stretch is doable in 2WD Scorpio. (Ertiga has done it in one of the Travelogues in BCMT).

Thanks

You’re trying to squeeze in too much into this itinerary; my suggestion would be to add at least 4-5 days to your plan or at the very least, skip Spiti or someplace else.

Going into the details, Chamba to Killar isn’t going to be doable in a single day, unless you’re planning to start at 4 am from Chamba and drive till late in the evening.
Rangdum to Padum will take at least 5 hours and Padum to Kargil will take 15 hours at minimum i.e. 15 hours without sightseeing.

Turtuk to Shyok means a driving time of around 12-13 hours.

Hanle to Keylong is completely out of question, unless you’re ok with the idea of driving for 16-17 hours.

Keylong to Kaza will also take 12 hours.

Kalpa to Ambala is around 10-11 hours as well.

Avoid traveling in August that is the monsoon season and Sach Pass is difficult at that time and the road can get easily closed due to landslide.

No issue with Scorpio 2WD, you won’t need 4WD unless Sach Pass route is slushed out.

Oh yes, hope you're planning to carry enough fuel for around a 1000 km to reach Tandi.

Thanks for the info. Regarding Permits , it is needed only for PTso Hanle sector. Am I correct?

Sreekanth
You will need permit for Nubra Valley, Turtuk, Pangong Tso, Chushul, Tsaga, Hanle, Loma, Nyoma and Tso Moriri. Foreigners, OCI, PIO etc. aren't allowed beyond Merak.

Thanks for the immediate response. Adding 4 or 5 days is no problem. I have overlooked the fuel issue and thank you for pointing it out. In 2016 I did the Chamba Killar section in about 11 hours. I will rework the itinerary keeping your suggestions in mind.
Thanks once again

I shall be grateful for your suggestions.

Thanks and Regards

Hi... Sreekanth

i read your post and i observed that if you follow your plan then you will endup drivimg only. Why we all travel ,it can be different for different persons, but the inherent idea of traveling is to see places and enjoy nature and enjoy journey.

in your plan this inherent idea can not be realized because you are driving so much you have no time for nature's praise.you are putting so much efforts and money in this plan and i genuinely fear all can go fruitless. I am becoming little straightforward sorry for it.

you should rework your plan and reduce the number of places so you will have more time to enjoy places you will visit
