Last 10 days of September aren’t good for visiting Ladakh, because by that time, climate starts turning cold. August beginning to September middle is good.

Depending on the weight of the pillion, rider and luggage, it might struggle at a few inclines, but nothing major, as long as bike is in good shape (at max pillion may have to walk a steep section). Make sure to not to over load the bike with luggage and things ought to be alright. Also keep in mind that Pillion will feel majority of the bumps and it would be tougher for him/her.

Manali route will likely open by May end and at that time, it is going to be in bad condition. You won't get much rain at that time, but the road at Rohtang and Baralacha La will have snow.

Hi Y S, Thanks for sharing all this useful information.
First time I am planning to go to Leh-ladakh tour somewhere in Starting June. Total 2 Male 2 Female (All around 30), 2 years kid. We can start our tour from Delhi or Chandigarh by a rented car with driver. I think Chandigarh - Jammu - Sribagar- Kargil-Zanskar-Leh-Nubra Valley-Pangong-Tso Morri-Sarchu-Manali-Chandigarh will be best route as I have got on this site. Please suggest:
1. Is this the best route?
2. What will be the approx economical tour cost (Approx)?
3. Where can we get the rented car (Private number) & what will be the approx cost of that?
4. How long will it take to complete this tour?
5. When will be the best time to visit this place?

1. It will cover pretty much all the circuits and since you are going via the Srinagar route, acclimatization ought to be gradual.

2. Tough to say, since it is dependent on various variables. But it ought to be around Rs. 600-800 a day per room on average for budget accommodation ( 600 x 2 x 22 = Rs. 26,400) + Rs. 250-300 per person per day for veg food (250 x 4 x 22 = Rs. 22,000) + other expenses and permit = Rs. 5,000-6,000 + taxi (in all likelihood Rs. 14-15 per kilometer x 4,000-4,200km + driver (Rs. 200-300 a day) + toll tax at various places).

3. Plenty of people in Chandigarh and Delhi rent those out, though do keep in mind that it is illegal and local taxi unions strongly detest such vehicles and can stop you to check whether or not it is a taxi or a private vehicle.

4. From Delhi, expect to spend at least 20-22 days for the above route. More if you wish cover these places at leisure.

5. Mid June onward would be alright. Middle of July to August are considered as best months to visit Ladakh, though it is monsoon season in rest of North India and Suru Valley is most beautiful around middle of September.

If there is not much snow on Khardung La and Chang La, then the Alto shouldn’t haven any issue. However, if there is plenty of snow and ice on the road, then the Alto would struggle big time, especially with a driver who does not have experience of driving on ice. Frankly speaking, it would be a good idea to go to Ladakh in the middle of June or later, when there is comparatively less snow.

For car preparation, read the following article Preparing your car for Ladakh | BCMTouring

hey yogesh!
Were planning to ride to Leh sometime in June. From Nubra Valley, there is a road which goes to Pangong Tso directly through Sakthi, instead of coming back to Leh. Do you have any idea how the condition of the road is? Is it rideable?
