Day: 3
The plan for today was to reach padum in Zanskar region and to see Drang Drung Glacier from Penzi La.However, like yesterday, god had something else planned for us.
Due to the previous day being so hectic, we all woke up casually and could start only after 10 in the morning. Filled up our car and started off for Padum.

Who wouldn't want to live in a place like this. Looks straight out of a canvas painting!

Off to work.

Road to heaven!

However, our joy was short lived. Just a couple of Kilometres ahead, we were stopped at a check post in Panikhar. There had been a major landslide ahead of Panikhar and it would take at least a couple of days for it to clear up.
With a heavy heart, we turned back towards Kargil and decided to ake it to Leh today itself.

Bird spotting!

On our way back, spotted a narrow road going down to the banks of Suru river. Walked across a small stream to a tiny island in the middle of Suru river. Relaxed and lazed around for some time at this place.

Had lunch at a cafe in Kargil. The food was decent.

Sunset

We didn't stop at magnetic hill as it was all overcrowded with various activities going on all around. We stopped at Gurudwara Pathar Sahib and had tea and prashad. It had started getting dark and it was already 8.

We finally reached outskirts of Leh around 8.30 and made out way to the guest house.

Freshened up a bit and made our way to Leh market. Had dinner in the market, roamed around a bit and called it a day.

Day 4:

Day 4 was meant for acclimatization, permits and local sight seeing. Woke up leisurely at around 10 in the morning. On the recommendation of the caretaker of the guest house, had breakfast at a nearby dhaba run by a Sardarji. Food was excellent and reasonable.
After filling up our tummies and our car, went for a much needed car wash and headed straight for DC Office for permits. If took us just 15 mins for the entire process and we were free by 1 in the afternoon.

Started local sight seeing with Shanti Stupa.

Had lunch in the Leh Market and headed towards Leh Palace.

The whole gang.

Not much photos were clicked on this day. Sadly, Leh Monastery was closed by the time we reached there. Came back to the city. Roamed around in the market for a bit, bought some souvenirs and Kaani shawls from the market and called it a day after an early dinner.

Tomorrow would be the day that we head towards Nubra Valley crossing the Mighty KhardungLa.
